Rhodes I is a tremendous sonic display of emotion from the first song to the fifteenth song. Much of the lyrics is emotionally dark in nature, but is so soulfully conveyed by Ms. Rhodes that it seems to have a kind of healing effect on those of us who faced some of those very same inner demons while growing up. Even if you're not paying attention to the lyrics, the way she welds her four octave vocal range (baritone to soprano) to an ambient chorus of guitar and synthesizer will dazzle even jaded new age music fans. Even though this album came out in 1986, it still has a very unique sound due to Ms. Rhodes' emotionally driven song-writing and her incredible singing talents.
