This is a great 1st Bible for small children (2-6). The rhyming format and vivid illustrations on each page are great for keeping the attention of little ones. I was also pleased that, although paraphrases, the stories generally remain true to the Biblical text. I read 2-3 stories from this book to my 5-year-old daughter nearly every night. We've gone through the entire book several times and just keep starting over again!

Delightful. More expensive than the rhyme bible for toddlers, but is also twice as thick. The two books are drawn by the same artist. I recommend buying this one instead of the toddler version because it is big and thick and thorough enough to worth the extra money.

I'm pretty picky, and looked a long time before I settled on this children's bible for my 3yo. I am so happy with my decision! The rhythms are smooth, the stories a good length, the details just right, and the illustrations a nice balance between fun and attractive.
I feel like a lot of children's bibles either strive for too much unnecessary detail or stray too far from the original text, but I was surprised at the level of scriptural accuracy this book maintained in simple verse form (for example, the three wise men don't show up at the manger, but later when Jesus is a toddler). I'm also pleased that difficult subject matter is handled well. I was always upset when I was little that the pharaoh's horses drowned in the Red Sea, too, but in this version there is an underwater illustration with a horse and chariot sinking, and the horse is looking at the reader with a sort of "D'oh!" expression that makes the situation seem less intense for younger readers. My daughter loves this book and asks me to read it for her, which is exactly what I was looking for. I don't want to inflict religion on my daughter; I want my daughter, instead, to find and fall in love with Jesus. This fun, well written, and well thought out children's bible is a wonderful introduction.

The Rhyme Bible,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Rhyme Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
This is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a children's Bible. The rhymes are clever enough to keep both adult and child wanting more. My three year old twins can't get enough and would let me read it cover to cover every night if I could! We currently have three or more children's Bibles in our collection and none of them are as thorough or as effective at conveying the actual texts as this one. Even the difficult subject of Jesus' crucifixion was explained beautifully and left my inquisitive toddlers understanding better why Jesus died. A "must have" for every child's library.

Good retelling of stories,
This review is from: The Rhyme Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
AGE: 2-6
FORMAT: 35 of the most famous--and most gentle--Bible stories in heavily illustrated 10-15 page bouncy poems that are actually pleasant and engaging. FAITHFULNESS: There is occasional softening of the stories to make them gentler and milder, but there is almost no editorializing despite the fact that the stories are completely rewritten to make them rhyme. ILLUSTRATIONS: Bright illustrations are engaging but not special. USEFULNESS: Good for bedtime devotions for the very young, and great for keeping attention. Not *terribly* useful beyond the narrative itself, and children in Christian homes should be very familiar with most of the stories quite young, so they won't be new to any but the youngest. There is a Rhyme Bible for toddlers, but I wouldn't want this simplified any further.

Catchy text & GREAT illustrations,

We have 3 "Bible books" (as my 2 year-old calls them) thus far. This was the first we bought, and it's still our favorite. The only con I can list is that we want more... more stories. It's selection of Bible stories is far from comprehensive - there are so many more stories to be told... but the ones chosen here are told well!
Why I like it: 1) Memorable text: our oldest (2 1/2) is at the age where he's absorbing lyrics (song and books) like crazy! The rhymes in the text are well written and he remembers parts of some of them. It's "his job" to tell the last part of the Noah story when he finds "a shining rainbow in the sky!" 2) Realistic illustrations: Being a guy (and father to 3 boys) I always chafe just a little when I see the cartoonie nature of some kids illustrations (especially animals). Another Bible story book we own shows the whale that eats Jonah as a smiling little fish with a perfect water spout coming out of the top, and the ferocious lions prepped to eat Daniel have round chubby cheeks and smiles on their faces. Life is happy, sad, and sometimes scary... I want my kids to learn that. The pictures here are real - Jonah's whale surprised me (teeth & all!), and my son at first, but that's his favotie story now. The pictures are real - SO much more interesting for the kids.

Best Bible for Children in Print...PROMISE!,
This review is from: The Rhyme Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
Our (ADHD) son who couldn't have cared less for books at age 4 would bring me this Bible to read him just "one" story. By the time he saw another picture and another, we had read 3 stories with him begging for "just one more". Yes, the illustrations are fantastic, but it is the easy flowing rhyming text that makes The Rhyme Bible a must have. My son has no doubt gotten ever child's Bible/devotional out there as gifts, but this one is our pick. As a parent you will soon be quoting the poems by heart, and the added bonus is that because your child will know the text, too, your child might learn to read early as ours did! This book is a keeper!

I got this book for my two-year-old grandson on the strength of all the positive reviews here, and now I want to add my own. When they were visiting recently, I started reading it to him and he loved it. He would bring it to me and ask me to read it. He would open it and look at the pictures by himself too. He learned all the characters and was telling me all about them very soon. I wasn't sure his Mom would want to read it to him since she's not a Christian, but she took it home with them and now tells me she does read it to him and she enjoys it herself.
