Carole's quietest album,
By
This review is from: Rhymes & Reasons (Audio CD)
Rhymes and Reasons contains the kind of music that most listeners associate with the singer-songwriter-fluid, piano driven, and melodic. One critic stated that this collection reflects the quiet life she found with Charlie Larkey, and musically I would agree that this is her most calm and calming album. Almost each song centers on Carole's use of layering multiple piano tracks (the piano work on this album is a bit more ornate and better recorded than on Tapestry), a solid bass line, and her voice. Lyrically, most of the songs have an intimate feel similiar to "So Far Away, but Carole addresses more issues such as racism and religion here than she does on Tapestry or Music. Examples such as "Peace in the Valley," "Ferguson Road," and "Been to Canaan" are among the best in Carole's discography. This album rates as one of the greats from the early seventies or any decade because of its intimacy, the piano work, Carole's incredible songwriting skills. One last note-if you're an audiophile, the Japanese pressing are superior. Sony has just released Writer in a digipak; let's pray they do the same for all of Carole's Ode albums.

Better than Tapestry,
By
This review is from: Rhymes & Reasons (Audio CD)
I consider this album the masterpiece of Carole King's art. While Tapestry is one of the most famous and popular albums of all time, because many of the cuts hit home so hard. I've known many people especially men who find the album depressing. Rhyhmes & Reasons is more uplifting. It's one of the first CD's I bought to replace a worn out album. For couples, you should be playing "THe Frist Day in August" every July 31st.

The third in a Masterpiece trilogy,
By
This review is from: Rhymes & Reasons (Audio CD)
Carole King / Rhymes & Reasons: This is yet another Masterpiece album from Carole King. This one, released in 1972, followed her "Tapestry" and "Music" albums of 1971 and is strongly related to those two previous albums (see note below). This album easily earns five stars."Tapestry"/ "Music" / "Rhymes & Reasons" are, in fact, a musical trilogy and ought to be heard in succession. If you love "Tapestry" but have not heard it along with "Music" and "Rhymes & Reasons", you have only experienced 1/3rd of the whole.

another great Carole King album,

This review is from: Rhymes & Reasons (Audio CD)
You know, Carole King never really released a bad album in the 70's. Rhymes and Reasons is probably one of her very best albums. If not THE best album she ever made. From the first song all the way to the last note at the very end, her beautiful voice, fantastic piano skills, ability to create soulful and memorable vocal melodies... these are the things you're guaranteed to enjoy the entire time. Carole King deserves to be remembered for more than just the Tapestry album. She's got plenty of other exciting albums worth listening to besides that one.

This is one of my very favorite Carole King albums! I like the music of course, but I really like some of the lyrics on this one. Back in the 'vinyl' days, I practically wore this album out. Glad to have found one now as a CD.

I am long time fan of Carol King and had originally purchased her Rhymes & Reasons album back in the 70's. If your a fan and like her Tapestry CD Rhymes and Reasons is a good follow-up.
