The 80's were without a doubt the WORST time in jazz music. Whenever I see a jazz CD I am not familiar with and I turn it over to see when it was made and I realize it is from the 80's --- I can't put it down fast enough.
Sure, there are some exceptions, but I would say 90% of the jazz made in that decade was music in limbo. For some reason, artists lost their backbone and forgot who they were. The 80's was a decade of searching, of tentativeness, a decade LOST FOREVER ---- let's HOPE. Having said that: Do not even think of buying this garbage. It is crapolla x 100. The want-to-be disco beats alone are enough, without mixing in the synth drums and polished vocal transitions... YUCK. If you buy this, you deserve to hate it. ~ Nuff said. All I want to know is WHAT DRUGS WERE THE OTHER TWO REVIEWERS ON when they described this CD???!!! (PS - before you go and say This was made in 1990, not the 80's, well, don't bother, some things are best left ignored - it does not matter, this is typical 80's vomit)

An enjoyable listen. If you like some 80's pop/soul/funk with a bit of jazz thrown in you may like this first album from a very successfull (especially in the 80's) session drummer. He displays his other talents here too such as singing and guitar but keeps it all within himself and doesnt go too overboard with it like he does a bit in his second album 'the groovesmith'. My faves are track 5, the title track, 11(amazing 16bar drum break!-simple but effective) and the last track for a technically very, typically omar, good drum outro.

I loved almost all the tracks on this CD. High degree of versatility displayed by Omar with respect to instrumentation, use of vocals and transitions from smooth jazz to rock/funk beats.
