Energetic and Pure Klezmer,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rhythm & Jews (Audio CD)
While not necessarily the Klezmatics best work, this CD is fast, upbeat and thoroughly enjoyable. A DJ could play this CD at a wedding and have the crowd up and dancing the whole time! Most of the tracks are songs directly from the old Klezmer masters with new Klezmatic-style arrangements. Seems like the Klezmatics cover very little new ground, though the old ground is certainly a lot of fun. This CD doesn't take the risks that are characteristic of the Klezmatics other work. If you want classic Klezmer in the modern Klezmatic style, this is the CD for you.

Wonderfull CD. I had to get used to it (for I haven't heared Klezmer before), but after a while my family complained whether my CD-Player can't eject the CD so I can hear something different :-)

With such a whimsical title, I wasn't sure what to expect. Novelty act? Not at all! The music proved much more serious than the cover might suggest. It is very traditional, authentic, and satisfying throughout. The Klezmatics have a lot of talent, and a deep love and understanding of this musical tradition. This is an outstanding CD, definitely one of the best klezmer albums I've heard. I'd recommend it to any fan of the genre. This is the real deal. Shalom!

Rhythm & Jews, The Klezmatics stunning cd from 1992, has been one of the most frequently played discs in my collection since I picked it up a few years ago. Last night, I finally got to see them perform live at The IMAC Theatre in Huntington, NY. As great as they are on cd, they are a must see "joy" in concert.

This CD has got it all. From fast-paced energetic songs to soft soothing melodies, this CD covers it. Not only is the music fascinating, it is also spiritual. The Yiddush connects the new to the old in a dynamic way. The best track is # 11 (Shnirele Perele). It's all about the Messiah coming and making the world a better place, tikkun olam. It begins with a slow tune, and by the end, it seems like the Klezmatics are screaming beuatiful Yiddush words at you in a precise, timed, and delicate manner. The best of the Klezmatic's three albums, this is a MUST buy!!!

When I was a little girl I had the chance to hear Klezmer for the first time. I didn't know what it was, but I always loved it. I learned to understand and appreciate this music, butit was hard to find. I love this music! It's very jazzy and rich in sound! Everyone should buy several copies of this album!
