5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Hot Hot Hot Hot, November 30, 2007
By Amy Haight (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This album must have been conceived as a soundtrack for the urban night. The electromagnetic groove is deep, dark, and gritty... with a little bit of rock mixed in to keep your pulse up.

The attention to detail is remarkable. Each track is a seamless fusion of modern styles & sounds, with a lot of acoustic instrumentation - not just synthetic beats and tones. It is cool and at the same time introspective. It escapes being depressing with some uplifting and effervescent solos. It may be a perfectly designed instrumental album.

If it had lyrics, it would be trip-hop. As an instrumental album, it's all acid-jazz, and a remarkable bit of work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chill Music at its Finest, July 29, 2007
By Sarah "sarah24sfca" (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
I loved the first CD, so I couldn't wait to pick up the second. It did not disappoint. This CD is heavier and more stylistically varied than the first Rhythm/Pleasure CD, with elements of rock, reggae, and even big band thrown in along with the expected downtempo beats and jazz solos. My favorite track is the acid-jazz "k0mplik8n" - with its outside solos and electronica sounds. The whole CD is mixed as one continuous piece with no vocals, so it really sets a chill mood then takes you to different moods and dimensions as it morphs styles.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Driving CD I Own, August 7, 2007
By Mark (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
I was a big fan of Rip Rowan's first record and had been looking for several years for more stuff by him and never found anything, so I was surprised to find this follow-up. This record is ridiculous. I put it in my Bose car stereo for a trip to Tempe last week and wound up letting it play through over and over for the whole trip. It's like Morcheeba and Zero 7 got together, dropped acid, and made an instrumental CD - kind of "space music meets downtempo rock". One of the coolest jam records I've ever heard.
