5.0 out of 5 stars The System Rhythm and Romance best of 89, October 2, 2009
This review is from: Rhythm & Romance (Audio CD)
Let me tell you The Systems Rhythm and Romance CD is straight R&B at it's finest and anyone that calls them a Electro-Funk band really is not a R&B lover especially seeing that The System David Frank and Michael Murphy never played or worked with or called their self an Electro-Funk band (anybody remember Video Vibrations on BET) as it is Rhythm and Romance is poppin from top to bottom track 1 "I'm About You" sets it off nice a fast track that will make you bob your head, track 2 "Soul to Soul" is one of their best singles and best jams it is a mid-tempo cut that you will play for your girl over and over again like poetry, track 4 "Midnight Special" was their first single from this Album if you don't know about this smooth groove you don't know The System this is a must have in any collection and the Extended Version is Ice Cold, track 5 " I Don't Know How To Say" is an incredible break up song it's smooth not overbearing you can let your honey-dip down nice & easy on this jam, track 7 " You Got Me (Where You Want Me ) is a nice Party jamm in 1989 when I was a Senior at GW we would bump this on a regular, track 8 "Have Mercy" is another one of the top tier jamms of The System and the third single from this Album it's also a must have if you want your Super-Sexy to feel your passion play this she won't thirst for nothing, track 11 "Guardian Angel" is a nice from the heart jamm, what makes this CD so special is David Frank shows that he can funk-it-up on more than just keyboards, synthesizers and such makes this one of those gems that any lover of what is considered Old-School now a must have, turn it on and let it do it to you in your ear-drum, 4 sho

5.0 out of 5 stars "Try to find one", March 9, 2008
This review is from: Rhythm & Romance (Audio CD)
What can I say, these guys don't know how to make a bad record. There are at least three masterpieces on this cd,midnight special, have mercy, and guardian angel.Besides these soul to soul,I'm about you,I don't know how to say,I wanna be your lover, and diggin' your rhythm could go #1 on the pop,r&b,and soul charts. The other songs grow on you if listen more than once, this is the one album that I did'nt have before,I'm sooooooooo glad to have it on cd.I must say "Guardian Angel" has the most beautiful music I've ever heard, what a complete album, add this one to your collection it'll be money well spent!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!, August 6, 2004
This review is from: Rhythm & Romance (Audio CD)
Make no mistake 'Rhythm & Romance' is ALOT funkier and
harder edged then the more lightweight 'Don't Disturb This
Groove'."I'm About You" flirts sudtly with New Jack Swing
(but thankfully not IMPLYING it instead of drowning in it)
while "Face The Music" and "Think About It" delve into hyperactive house textures.Meanwhile "Midnight Special",
"Wicked","Guardian Angel" and the manic paced "I Wanna Be Your Lover" are superb extentions on the sound of their other 1980's albums. And even they can't keep the leathel funk of "I Don't Know How To Say..." and "Diggin' Your Rhythm" in check or tame
their relentless rhythms! As for the romance the midtempo "Soul
To Soul" and "Have Mercy" fit that area to a tee and,as always
the songwriting is superior throughout! It would take Dave and Mic another whole decade to follow up this album and it turned
out to be 2000's uneven 'ESP' CD.So strap on your seatbelt and
prepare for this funky late 80's journey into rhythm!

5.0 out of 5 stars 7 years after it was invented, this system is still functioning beautifully, October 18, 2007
This review is from: Rhythm & Romance (Audio CD)
The System started out in late 1982 as sort of a lightweight techno-funk group. On this album from 1989, they opt more for contemporary R&B and new-jack swing, and they prove as adept at it as they did at the kind of music they made before. Best recommended songs:

Guardian Angel (absolutely killer; best song on album)
Midnight Special (this album's equivalent of "Don't Disturb This Groove")
I Don't Know How To Say... (catchy, melodic)

4.0 out of 5 stars I give this cd a four or 3 and a 1/2, December 22, 2004

If you love 80's music, then you will love The System. I've liked them ever since the early 80's. I especially enjoy Mic Murphy's soulful voice. Although I'm not really into the late 80's/early 90's style of music their were a few songs that still have me playing this cd till this day like Midnight Special, Soul to Soul, Guardian Angel, and Have Mercy. I liked the beats and Mic Murphy's voice is hot and still tight till this day as evidenced on their latest 2000 cd titled ESP.
