5.0 out of 5 stars Vivid, real and exhilirating - what filmmaking should be!, September 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Rhythm Thief [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If you want to see a pure, down-and-dirty independent film chock full of gritty realism, while still amazing to look at, then this is your kind of film. If you want to see the New York you'll never see from the top of a double-decker tour bus, then BUY THIS FILM! The acting is excellent, the cinematography is cutting edge and thrilling. It's sad, funny, sexy and trippy - but never in gratuitous ways. It's kind of pure, like Scorcese's "Mean Streets" and Cassavetes' films. A must if you're thinking of being a filmmaker!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Stunning!, November 9, 2001
This review is from: Rhythm Thief [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Movies have rarely, if ever depicted New York City streets with more biting honesty than Rhythm Thief. An Astounding film by brilliant filmmaker Matthew Harrison. A petty thief finds a unique way to surivive on the street of lower Manhattan. Harrison's watchful eye never fliches from the truth of what a man will do when he's desperate and willing. This film should be part of any film enthusiast collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shoestring beauty, November 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Rhythm Thief [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Mostly hand-held, this B&W tone-poem to New York's lower east side affectionately sketches the story of a somewhat low-life critter named Simon and the world around him. Obviously made for less than the cappucino budgets of studio films, this one deserves a place in the history of AmerIndie cinema - a funny and lovely gem.
