Book Description

0873227182 978-0873227186 January 1995
This text aims to help select and teach developmentally appropriate dance and rhythmic activities to students. Chapter 1 provides guidelines for developing K-8 rhythmic activities and dance programmes, planning units and lessons, managing classes and evaluating students. This introductory chapter lists cognitive, affective, and psychomotor characteristics as well as the needs and expectations of children in grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Subsequent chapters contain activities that focus on a specific type of dance or rhythmic activity including: 28 rhythmic games and activities; 18 aerobic and rhythmic dance routines; 32 line dance activities; big set figures, square dances, and clogging; and 32 folk dances. To help physical educators individualize instruction, the activities in chapter 2 through 7 are divided into a progression of three developmentally appropriate skill levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

This book is a great selection for anyone who is interested in creating a fun and exciting atmosphere for their students. It is a great stress release for both teachers and their students. It also fosters an understanding of different cultures by introducing students to various dances from different regions of the world.

1.0 out of 5 stars The item was not in like-new condition, May 25, 2010

I ordered this book that had a cd with the new book. When I ordered it I did not see that it did not have a cd. The book was described as like new and it was very worn. I e-mailed the person I ordered it from saying I was not happy with the purchase because I thought it was mis-represented. I asked to send it back and get a refund. He wrote back and basically said that's tough!
I would never order from them again. You should not either!
