Impressive...,

I am trying to extend my horizons here and was turned on to this new (for me) sound. I usually listen to more experimental/brokenbeat/breakcore but this music is a vacation to my ears. Bubbly and clicky riddims lace this fun, head-nodable/dancable album. I HIGHLY reccommend this selection to ANYONE who wants something aside from the mainstream sewage that attracts the hordes. Try MRI's "All That Glitters" too! As usual, Force Inc makes 'em good.

The Germans Are Coming,
By
This review is from: Rhythmogenesis (Audio CD)
MRI is a relatively new outfit composed of Germans Frank Elting and Stephan Lieb, and this full length does an excellent job of establishing them in the current minimal tech-house scene. Most of the track on the album are over 8 minutes long and develop very well through dreamy chords, delayed synth-lines, deep bass, and quirky samples. Any fan of Basic Channel, Richie Hawtin, Theorem, Sutekh, Kit Clayton, Vladislav Delay, or Thomas Brinkmann will rank this album as a top of 2000.

This is truly one of the greatest dubby / minimal techno albums around. Basic Channel & Porter Ricks fans will be very happy. If you can track down any Elting/Lieb albums they are also as strong as M.R.I.. Rhythmogenesis has a polished dub sound, even an occasional voice sample is heard, but tastefully. This CD sould be in every minimal techno lover's collection. After you get M.R.I., try to track down "elting_lieb" the "disturbedances" CD, you may find it on Amazon.co.uk. Truly Frank Elting and Stephan Lieb have cornered the market of dubby tech. Superb.

MRI - Rhythmogenesis,
This review is from: Rhythmogenesis (Audio CD)
RHYTHMOGENESIS features deep and dubby tech-house from MRI, a German (of course) duo. The Basic Channel influence on this release is undeniable, but so is the groove. Something about those long, drawn out tones on "To Be Honest" is ear-catching, and the robotic number-calling on "Nummern" give it an interesting texture. It's all very smooth, very soothing, and if anything, that might be a drawback in the end. Perhaps it flows by a little too easily. That said, however, it's a pleasing album in many ways (the darkness on "Kompression" or the warmth groove of "Out of the Daily Routine")--that there's no reason to overlook it.

Essential Recording,

This is very, very, very good dub-laced techhouse (or techno, or house or whatever label of the trendy moment fits). Very sultry and sexual - the title of one of their tracks (on All That Glitters, their other album under the MRI moniker) says it best - this is "Nightclubbing at Home".

AMBIEONIC DANCE FLO' MADNESS WITH CHILL APPEAL!!!!,

This review is from: Rhythmogenesis (Audio CD)
Another outstanding CD from an unknown German duo who really know how to produce some damn good dance tracks. And although a few vocals could have been thrown into the mix for good measure, it really doesn't take away from the almost ambient beauty of this album. One throwing a party for his club-head friends could put this baby on repeat and not worry about changing out the music. EXXXXXXCELLENT!!!!
