5.0 out of 5 stars Congradulations, June 16, 1999

This review is from: Rhythms Volume One : Music Sight Reading Exercises (Spiral-bound)
This book gives the serious student a real workout in eighth note rhythms. Personally I haven't seen anything at this level, I congradulate Muse-eek Publishing Company for putting out a book which is obviously geared to the serious student and not the lowest common denominator like most music publishers. Keep up the excellent work

5.0 out of 5 stars Rhythms with Audio what a great concept, June 16, 1999

Just wanted to write in and tell everyone how much this book has help me. I've always had a problem reading and playing rhythms. Mr. Arnold's book has really helped. I went to the muse-eek website and got the audio examples and playing those with the exercises has really helped. I think I'll check out the other volumes soon.

This book is pretty good, but I don't know that I'll ever get through the whole thing. It only covers eighth notes and bigger, making it extrememly thorough, but also very boring to play. I got it for piano, but I don't know how helpful it really is because it only drills you on a single measure instead of two at a time, which is what a pianist would play. All in all, though, it is good for memorizing the sound of all the different ways to play eighth notes. As a precursor to this book, or in place of this book, I would recommend 'Sight-Read any Rhythm Instantly' by Mark Phillips, which goes through the whole process of how to properly read rhythm and also exposes the student to different time signatures.
