3.0 out of 5 stars An okay read - nothing special
I'm sorry to disagree with the other two reviewers, but I really didn't find Robin Lee Hatcher's latest book to be that great. It did hold my interest enough for me to finish it in a couple of days, but I guess I was expecting more.

The author uses the technique of interspersing present-time segments (very brief - usually only a page or so) with longer sections that...

reading Ribbon of Years and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a writer myself, I admire how Robin Lee Hatcher's writing seems effortless. The story tells itself without the reader constantly being reminded of the writer behind the words. I have read the works of more recognizable names and constantly felt their presence (or intrusion) into the story. I have only read a few of Robin's titles, but she has gone to the top of my favorite author list. Her inspirational segments in the story are well-placed and thought provoking. By reading her works, I have learned more about the art of writing than many of the non-fiction books on the craft on the market today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah, to leave such a legacy, August 13, 2001
This review is from: Ribbon of Years (Hardcover)
This book made me cry, and I am not a weeper. I think Robin's portrayal of one woman's legacy in a small town is incredible. It forces you to think about your own mortality and what will be said about you. The characterization is awesome, and I think she's hit a new plateau in inspirational fiction. 5.0 out of 5 stars I've read it 5 times, August 8, 2002

This review is from: Ribbon of Years (Hardcover)
I am a long time fan of Robin Lee Hatcher's writing and have read every book she's written. But this is by far my favorite of all. I've read it five times and will read it again. What I have always loved best about Robin's writing is her ability to pull a reader instantly into the story. That was certainly true of Ribbon of Years. I am eagerly looking forward to buying a copy of Firstborn as soon as it's released.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!, August 6, 2001

I know the "couldn't put it down" line is a bit cliche, but it was definitely true about this book. Miriam's story is a wonderful example of how a life of faith can impact others. This book will linger in my mind for a long time to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sweet story of a life well lived., May 18, 2006
This review is from: Ribbon of Years (Hardcover)
A novel like Ribbon of Years comes along once in a lifetime. In fact, the novel itself is the recounting of one woman's lifetime, told through the stories of her friends to a visitor at an auction of the woman's home.

The story is of a woman named Miriam. It begins in 1936 with her life as a teenager in River Bluff. Miriam longs to get out of the crushing monotony of her small-town life and find some fast-paced adventure. As the story unfolds, however, circumstances keep Miriam from leaving and it seems like she will forever be stuck in a dead-end town with a nothing life. One disaster after another crashes over Miriam, but through it all she begins to understand God's hand in her life and to see that her value lies not in what she can become, but rather in how she lives her life. Though she continues to live a quiet, unassuming life, Miriam's gentle faith touches the lives of many. She perseveres through the trials and walks out the difficulties in her daily life in the strength of the Lord.

Ribbon of Years is an impressive novel with a storyline that spans seven decades. The historical references throughout the book help to keep the reader focused not only on the life, but also the times, that happen during these years. I highly recommend this novel by this prolific writer, and look forward to exploring Robin Lee Hatcher's many other works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Leaves you wanting something in your life....., September 5, 2001
This review is from: Ribbon of Years (Hardcover)
This is one of those books that after reading it you wish for what the main character has. No, not all the trials and tribulations she must go through but the peace that she has with her through them. Robin has written a remarkable book that will keep you flipping the pages to the very end, you will not want to put this book down to sleep. You will need to make sure you have the time to sit back with a cup of tea and relax with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Historical, March 16, 2011
This review is from: Ribbon of Years (Kindle Edition)
Robin Lee Hatcher has given us a fascinating journey to follow in this story about allowing God to direct our lives. While entertaining her readers, Robin also gives them a taste of the joy they can have when they release their own plans and follow the plans specifically designed for each of us.

I'm never disappointed by Robin Lee Hatcher's books, but this one is a favorite. It brought back memories and took me on a journey of discovery that spans time and shows God's hand at work and His amazing grace throughout. Long before Julie and Julia, Hatcher's Juliana followed Miriam's life through a box of her saved treasures that reveal an amazing life of faith through trials and adventures that help Juliana find deeper meaning and faith for her own life.
