5.0 out of 5 stars The Nature Boy
This is a very good behind the scenes look at the life of the great "Nature Boy" Ric Flair.
The insight on this video of Flair is very good.
You get to hear and see things about Ric Flair that you may not have known before.
Get an up close and personal account of Flair's career from the man himself and from several other legends of the game...

3.0 out of 5 stars This just didnt get the job done.
How can you review Flairs career in an hour? I felt the video could have been much better. However, I did enjoy the classic NWA interviews. On the downside though, how can you not include the 45 minute Flair, Sting title match at Clash of the Champions 1, or when he battled Luger at Bash 88 and Starrcade 88. Of course you cant not have a Flair video without showing him...

4.0 out of 5 stars Flair video is good - but only an hour long, January 10, 2001
By
This review is from: Ric Flair: 2 Decades of Excellence [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Although released in the later part of 1995, this video was put together while Ric Flair was inactive from the sport (October 94 - April 95) and was basically a review of his career and how he came to be the most accomplished star in the industry.

There are some really good indepth interviews from both allies and rivals of Flair. Men such as Sting, Dusty and Dustin Rhodes, and Arn Anderson are interviewed throughout the tape and give some surprisingly interesting comments pertaining to the Nature Boy (Sting speaks of how he felt the first time he faced Flair and Dustin comments on watching his dad and Flair do battle in the ring).

In addition, "the man" himself speaks candidly about every aspect of his career - from the plane crash that almost ended his career before it began, to being trained by Verne Gagne, to his first title victory against Dusty Rhodes in St. Louis, to how he sees his future in the industry.

At the end of the tape, three of Flair's biggest title victories are shown (although not shown in their entirety). 1) vs. NWA Champion Harley Race (cage match from Starrcade 83 in Greensboro, NC) 2) vs. NWA Champion Ricky Steamboat (Wrestle War 89 in Nashville, TN) 3) vs. WCW Champion Big Van Vader (Starrcade 93 in Charlotte, NC)

Really good tape considering it runs only 60 minutes. The only thing I find missing is any footage of Flair being in the WWF (although considering this tape was made by WCW, I didn't expect that).

Recommended.

Good interviews and good clips. The featured matches were not shown in their entirety and the Rude v. Flair and Vader v. Flair in the Thundercage that was promised were not shown at all.... very disapointing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as it should've been!!, February 19, 1999

It was okay but it coul've been better. 60 minutes just isn't enough for a legend like the "Natureboy" Ric Flair, not to mention that it would've been better if they would've showed the complete matches that he had with Harley Race, Ricky Steamboat, and Vader. The Steamboat match was about 40 minutes long and they only showed 7 minutes of it. Disappointing, indeed!

Of course you cant not have a Flair video without showing him recapture the belt from Sting in the match that happened in January of 91. Last but not least, you need the interviews on Hogan, Sting, Steamboat and Luger. To this day there has not been a flair match that has outdone his performance against Sting at Clash of the Champions 1. As for Flairs battles against hogan they could have been better. Flair a far more talented then Hogan athleticly and charisimatically.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's historically accurate if history started in 1988, January 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ric Flair: 2 Decades of Excellence [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ric Flair began in this business in 1973. He became a star in the mid-70s and was selling out arenas in such towns as St. Louis, Toronto, Charlotte, and Tokyo before anyone had ever heard the words "Hulk Hogan" uttered. This tape was produced by a company that actually owns nearly 25 years worth of tape on Mr. Flair, however since the current regime at that company refuses to admit that wrestling existed prior to "Hulkamania," we don't actually get to see any of that great footage on this collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Look at The Nature Boy, August 13, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Ric Flair: 2 Decades of Excellence [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ric Flair is the most exciting and entertaining figure to have ever stepped into a professional wrestling ring. For years fans of WCW/NWA and the WWF have witnessed his exploits. This video was put together by the folks at Turner, who have years of footage from many of "The Nature Boy"'s classic appearances on TBS.

And for some reason, they decided not to show any of it.

Instead you get standard "mark" interviews with Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Sting ... very brief clips of some of his great moments ... and highlights culled from three of his World Championship bouts ('83 vs. Harley Race, '89 vs. Rick Steamboat, and '93 vs. Vader). Despite the title, the video makes no attempt to trace the history of Flair's career. A must buy for only the most die hard of fans. END

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 Decades of Excellence...in 60 minutes, February 15, 2006
This review is from: Ric Flair: 2 Decades of Excellence [VHS] (VHS Tape)
In the world that existed before DVD's, this tape was about as good as it gets. This tape features Flair at his peak. He speaks candidly about such topics as the plane crash very early in his career, which almost ended his career. He also talks about his training under Verne Gagne. Unlike Hulk Hogan, who had his career on mainstream television for the most part, Ric Flair's career was viewed mostly by the cable audience. For many people, much of this tape will be previously unseen footage of his bouts.
It is a great chance to see or hear such legends as the American Dream Dusty Rhodes, Ravishing Rick Rude, Harley Race, Vader, Sting, Muta and the Four Horseman (the greatest assemblage of wrestling talent ever to unite). Ric Flair's career spans 2 decades of legendary bouts and superstar opponents. This tape does an excellent job of summarizing and showcasing all of it.
Of course, now the WWE has come out with a multi-disc package of Ric Flair, including video of him in the NWA, WCW and WWF/E. Even still, I highly recommend this tape.
