5.0 out of 5 stars Warning: This Album Is Only For Certain Tastes!
Okay, as far as Euro-Dance albums go, "Rice&Curry" is probably not one of the greatest. It is more geared toward the sensibilites of open-minded listeners with good senses of humor. I, for one, love this album. Produced in Sweden(which is where so much of today's best Euro-Dance is written and produced)the lead singer on here goes by the alias of Dr.Bombay...

This is not what you'd call a politically correct album; Dr. Bombay (and his new alter-ego, Dr. MacDoo, his Scottish brother) are in fact a Scandinavian Euro artist. This is not what you'd call a politically correct album; Dr. Bombay (and his new alter-ego, Dr. MacDoo, his Scottish brother) are in fact a Scandinavian Euro artist. The songs are poppy-happy (insanely so, with almost-English lyrics that *nearly* make sense) and the music keeps on a-bumpin' but some might find the stereotyping offensive: Dr. Bombay drives a taxi in Calcutta, lives with his enormous extended family (much of which was eaten by a tiger) and sings of his love for curry and rice. On the other hand, I have Indian friends who love this stuff precisely because it is so over-the-top. It's addictive, goofy stuff.

Okay, as far as Euro-Dance albums go, "Rice&Curry" is probably not one of the greatest. It is more geared toward the sensibilites of open-minded listeners with good senses of humor. I, for one, love this album. Produced in Sweden(which is where so much of today's best Euro-Dance is written and produced)the lead singer on here goes by the alias of Dr.Bombay. He sings and raps through songs that celebrate his(so-called)native India. The album, a complete tongue-in-cheek joke, is very one-note in terms of humor. However, the beats are undeniably catchy and some of the lyrics are hysterical - my favorite tracks being DR. BOOM-BOMBAY(#2), RICE & CURRY(#4), S.O.S(THE TIGER TOOK MY FAMILY)(#6), and SHAKY SNAKE(#8, the latter of which has more of a Middle Eastern sound than one of India. Regardless, this album is either a love-it or hate-it experience. When some of my friends hear it, they just stare at me and wonder if I am insane. At the same time, I have other friends who love Dr.Bombay as much as I do. I recommend this album, if only because it is something very different that will diversify the collection of any Euro-Dance fan. If you are a fan of Dr.Bombay's album, then be on the look-out for his newest project, the similarly stupid, but catchy Scotland-themed album "Under The Kilt". This time Dr.Bombay's alias has been changed to Dr.Macdoo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unordinary common dance album, November 7, 2001

Well, 1st time when I heard the track Calcutta on the radio, I understood that although this album contains quite bad quality music (at least it waz my 1st expression) it is so funny and joyful, that I decided it would be cool if I bought it. And it wazn't a mistake - tracks who didn't become a top hits, are even better than Calcutta. I can agree with that man who said his friendz seein' what kind of music he got, asked whether he has gone insane. My matez asked quite the same.
But the music of Dr. Bombay contains something original, special, that I simply can't call this album a cheap dance music trash. Extraordinary example of common kind of music. At least it is worth listening once to these tracks.

Dr. BoomBombay is by far the best techno artist today. I only wish that the good doctor would release an album for sale in the states! The imports are heavy on my wallet! With songs like Safari, SOS (The Tiger Took My Family), and Rice and Curry, he's a sure fire hit! BUY THIS CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Bombay is the most badassed techno I've ever heard, October 12, 1999

This review is from: Rice & Curry (Audio CD)
Dr. Bombay is actually swedish but he pretends to be a crazy indian and he is very good at it. Awesome songs to dance to, hilarious lyrics, and the best synthesizer parts I've ever heard is how I would sum up this CD. Every song has an awesome beat and very catchy lyrics. If you want to bump, buy this album.

This CD is so cool. I am a classic rock listener....so owning this CD seems strange. It is like East Indian Techno or something. Whatever it is, it is addicting. Even my 8 year old loves it. I have to keep the CD in the car so he can hear it. I would have never bought it myself, it was a gift, but I am so glad I own it. The lyrics will stay in your head and you will find yourself chanting the songs while shopping or showering...I guarantee it! GREAT CD.
