A classic recording from a great singer.,

This has the great Dylan tune "Knocking on Heavens Door" with Ms. Crawford's soul stirring vocals...It should be noted that Randy's endurance can be seen by the fact that some 20 years after her big #1 hit "Street Life", she put another, Rod Temperton's "Give Me The Night", at the top of the charts. That gives me the impression that she can crank out the top R&B tunes when she wansta...and that she is pernickety about her art, like all great creators are....She came here and gave a great concert here in Kowtown near the time this album came out and I went to see her (she was showcasing with smooth jazz pianist Alex Bugnon). I was already into her from note one, but it took the audience a while to get her...she's got some of the purest singing out there, period. Her focus, her style, her phrasing, the smolder from down inside--perfecto. It takes an audience like the truly uninitiated in Kowtown a while to notice because she makes it all look so easy. Once the listener gets in on the secret of Ms Crawford's quiet fire, they are hooked. Randy, of course, won over that entire audience in Kowtown, "All Kinds of People" being my favorite. This is one of Randy's best albums, but the listener should go back and find either "Raw Silk" or "Secret Combination" to get a true feel of how really great she is...next time you have a concert tour across the nation, I hope you stop in Kowtown, Randy.

A wonderful album through and through,

A passionate, soulful singer who beautifully blends jazz and soul, Randy Crawford's rich, warm voice and uplifting style have helped her to maintain a solid and lengthy, if underappreciated, career. On this, one of her best albums, she offers up a heady mix lyrically conscious jazz tunes and beautifully sensuous soul, from the wonderful "Wrap-U-Up" and "Love Is," to the great title track and "I Believe That Love Can Change The World," and she gets solid, well-crafted support from her largely anonymous backing crew. If you're a Randy Crawford fan, I shouldn't have to tell you that this is a great album. If you're not familiar with her but you like fresh, contemporary vocal jazz, this is one of the best places to start.
