Shoddy Elegance,

This painful book of deeply inspired images seems to come from Goldberg's coldly objective heart. The author takes photographs from society's rich and poor, he then lets each subject write about his/her photograph (in subject's own handwriting!) and also allows the subject to choose which photograph to display. It is a brutal-genius idea in the way that it is so obvious as to be utterly unthinkable. I could not put this book down as my hunger for insight into each "character" grew with each turning page.
