The Nixon Tapes: Know what you're getting and then get it.,
By jason@cam.org (Montreal, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Richard M. Nixon: The Nixon Tapes (Penton Audio) (Audio CD)
The "big speech" was one of Nixon's power tools, as it has been for many presidents. But compare a Nixon speech to a Clinton speech. Wow! Has it really been only 35 years? The style was so much more primitive then. The techniques of media spin have really come a long way. Nevertheless there are some heavy hitters here. The "Checkers" speech is a classic. "I am going to do in this talk what has never before been done..." Woah! Clinton could have taken lessons. He might have put an end to the whole business a long time ago. This is a collection of some of R.N.'s best. Unfortunately the packaging is deceptive. It leads one to believe that one will hear at least some of the secretly recorded White House recordings of R.N. and his cronies: the Watergate tapes. These are not Nixon Tapes but Nixon Speeches. So beware... But if you are interested in the handiwork of a fascinating political operator... get it!
