Book Description

March 2005
Here we have VOLUME TWO of our Edge Books imprint publication of RICHARD MATHESON: COLLECTED STORIES. Again, it is an expanded tradepaperback version of the 1989 Dream/Press hardcover limited edition. We are publishing it in 3 volumes (click here to view RICHARD MATHESON: COLLECTED STORIES, VOLUME ONE).

This three volume edition of RICHARD MATHESON: COLLECTED STORIES is the gathering together of 86 Richard Matheson short stories, beginning with Born of Man and Woman from 1950 and ending with Duel from 1971. The stories were arranged by Matheson himself roughly in chronological order of original publication. There are also several tributes to Richard Matheson throughout the volumes from admirers such as Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Robert Bloch, William F. Nolan, and others. Finally, Matheson wrote a deeply revealing Introduction for the collection. As Matheson himself states in this Introduction, "A twenty-year period of creativity reduced to the psychological background of my output of fantasy and science-fiction stories. If this were a thesis, that would be my premise".

As with Volume One, for Volume Two editor Stanley Wiater has included a "bibliophile" at the end of each story containing Matheson's very own commentary on the behind-the-scenes details of each story. Each story is also listed with it's original publication date and place of publication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Classics, January 1, 2006
This review is from: Richard Matheson: Collected Stories, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
If you're familiar with Matheson's work, you may have read a few of these tales already. Even if you have, revisiting some of them won't bother you a bit, since Matheson writes so well.

The stories, which include gems like "The Children of Noah" and "Wet Straw" are the kind of tales that give you a shiver with their twist endings, and leave you wanting more.

Great classics from a master.

4.0 out of 5 stars A feast for the connoisseur of good horror stories., October 20, 2008
This review is from: Richard Matheson: Collected Stories, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
The two volumes (2 & 3)of Collected Stories by Richard Matheson should satisfy everyone interested in the modern ghost and horror story. Matheson is one of the modern masters of the genre. With more than forty stories in each volume the reader will be kept occupied frightening themselves sleepless, for many a long hour. What I found particularly engaging was the way he has skillfully updated the ghost story from its Victorian heyday to the modern era without losing anything of its particular flavour. It is for the reader to sample the joys contained therein for themselves and I will make no attempt to critique individual offerings. I would simply wish to recommend these volumes highly to those with an insatiable appetite for the well constructed tale of macabre terror.
