Best pop-up book ever!,
By F.N. Wright "musichead" (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Richard Scarry'S All Around Busytown! Pop-Up : A 3D Popup Book (Hardcover)
My 2-1/2 yr old son instantly fell in love with this book, followed shortly thereafter by me and the rest of the family. This is a great book to explore as you can go in and around the buildings, through the doorways, over the bridges and such. Plus, it can be read front-ways and/or back-ways, as there is printing on both sides of the page, giving a little reward for exploring the pages. The story is very cute also and the expressions of the characters are funny and endearing. The pop-ups are quite extravagant, relatively speaking, for a children's book, but not so much as to be overwhelming, and are also quite sturdy. There are also some cool little flaps which display action sequences. There is a train engine that really moves down the track! Richard Scarry rules!!!

I have 2 different books by Richard Scarry that are about Busytown. My grandson and I spend a long time with each of these books. They are pop ups and have doors to open and holes to look through and doorways leading to other scenes and each pair of pages have so many different little things to talk about. I'd buy these again and consider others by this author. You also need to turn this book up side down because there is another set of scenes that connect to the front side just as demanding of attention. In both books there is theme that is carried out. The story is there but at age 2 it works better to just talk it through.

Hi, bought this book for one of my grandsons. Yes, he is too little to appreciate it and will tear the pages, but I was feeling nostalgic about Richard Scarry, since his father (my son) loved the books so much. It is high quality and well done, worth the extra cost. I'll now go back and purchase the age appropriate books for him from the same author.

I bought this book as a replacement for our very old, very used one.
My grandson loves this book. We have read it many, many times. The pop-ups are two-sided, so you can read the book one way, turn it around and read it the other. There are so many things to look at and study and move. I enjoy it almost as much as he does.

An unrealistic portrayal of an american busy town,

A very uninspiring book. I had a hard time following the storyline and if it wasn't for the popups, I would not have understood the plot at all. Richard Scarry creates a world that is not only busy, but chaotic. I give this book an F.
