5.0 out of 5 stars Great learning tool!
I am really anti-videos for young children, theoretically! However, I have found this video to be very helpful in getting my 2 year old to understand the concept of counting. She could count to 20 before, but now she counts out everything from goldfish to babies! and she does it correctly! She loves this video and I don't mind her watching it! It is very sweet and...

This DVD is only about 20 minutes long.
This has somewhat helped 3-year-old can count from 11-20 but this DVD does not help her to learn to recognize the digits as they are flashed on the screen for a fraction of a second.
However she seems to like to watch the Richard Scarry characters that we grew up with. I would like for Leappad to make a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Video, October 13, 2000
My cousins who are 3 years and 19 months began to watch this film. The three year old picked up on counting right away. The 19 month old began to count a couple of weeks later. We have been amazed at their progress in such a short time. They love to watch this video, as it is colorful and very entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 22 mos old knows how to count thanks to this video, October 20, 1999
By A Customer
I bought this video for my son because I know many people who bought this video after it came out in 1989. It really is a wonderful learning video for children. It is timeless and will last for many years while many others could be dated. It emphasizes the numbers and children really do learn. My son surprised me when the little girl Lilly was showing her father how to count to 10 by counting along with her. He knows how to count to 15 really well and now we are working up to 20.

5.0 out of 5 stars My almost 3 year old son LOVES this DVD!!, January 13, 2005

This review is from: Richard Scarry's Best Counting Video Ever! (DVD)
I purchased Richard Scarry's Counting and ABC's video at the same time. The ABC's video is slightly better than this one (in my opinion) but my son adores them both and watches them back to back (we watch ABC's then he asks for the Counting DVD). My son already knew most of his ABC's (I'm using that DVD for reading as well) but he could only count to 10 and only recognized numbers up to 5. We haven't had these DVD's for a week yet and my son's already recognizing his numbers upto 10 and repeats the higher numbers. I recommend this DVD OVER Sesame Street's 123 Count With me that basically only goes upto 15 (except for a counting song that goes upto 20) but my son loves that DVD as well. [...]

My son is transfixed with this video. He knew how to countbefore we got it (he is 2), but this video really taught him theconcept of counting - not just memorizing the numbers.

5.0 out of 5 stars So cute, sweet. Enjoyable to watch. Much more than most., January 18, 2005

I love this video! It has sweet songs and characters. Someone with actual talent must have written the songs. I can hardly stand to watch the leap frog videos because of the horrible song lyrics.
The characters are adorable and the setting is calm and not flashy. A little rabbit walks along through town and counts things up to 20. As she counts it clearly shows the numbers. It keeps my very active 2 year old enthralled and learning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful - Educational, Fun, and Sweet!, May 30, 2002
My 2-year-old son requests this video every day! As a mom, I like the video, because it is simple, charming, educational, and has very sweet counting songs (and I don't get sick of it, as I do with many other children's videos). No commercials at the beginning - just plain old NUMBERS! The video features Lilly the rabbit, who goes through Busy Town on her "Counting Day", and finds things like 5 frogs and 6 scarecrows. After each number segment, the video shows the corresponding numeral on the screen to help children associate the number with the concept. The tape features numbers from 1 to 20, in two separate "halves" (of 1-10 and 11-20), so if your child is only old enough for 1-10, you can easily stop the video halfway through and still maintain its coherence. I cannot recommend this more highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Counting Video!, May 3, 2001
This has been a great video for teaching our preschooler the concept of using numbers to count things [which she just didn't get prior to seeing this video]. Now she is learning to count objects and has a wonderful time singing the songs. I think it is a cute video and an ingenious way to get little ones interested in numbers. We are very grateful for all the Richard Scarry learning videos - they are real winners!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wholesome and truly educational!, September 30, 2004
My toddler loves to count, and this video is part of why. She is wary of animation, and thus far she'll only watch it if we are in the room with her. But I think my daughter is unsual in that area. Most kids love animation.

The illustrations are of familiar animals and settings. It has catchy tunes to make numbers cheerily memorable, and it is repetitive enough that kids really learn. It's not too visually hypnotic or frantically paced.

Kids see the written numerals, hear the number words, and see the objects being counted all at once for a complete learning experience. All you need to do is practice counting real objects throughout the day to add the tactile element!

Best of all, there is absolutely nothing objectionable in either the words or illustrations. The 'children' are polite and respectful. The characters have a realistic enough range of emotions without modeling negativity or bad habits. The adults are intelligent, responsible, and caring.

All told, I consider this to be one of the best preschool videos ever!
