The approach works well for a book about befuddled Mr. Fixit, who gets it all wrong as he decorates-ostensibly for Christmas-all over town. Preschoolers will enjoy finding Valentine hearts, Easter eggs, birthday candles, and Halloween motifs before Mr. Fixit finally gets the Busytown Christmas tree up (or down). Richard Scarry was born in Boston, Massachussetts in 1919. He was
married to Patricia Scarry, also a children's writer. Their son Huck
carries-on Richard Scarry's work today.
Richard Scarry passed away at his home of Gstaad, Switzerland in 1994.
Whenever asked how old he was, he would always put up one hand and
laugh: " Five!" . And he was always right !

I do not know if this is "one of those" books that the PURIST Richard Scarry collectors would be upset about. The publication date on the back cover is 2001.(Some Scarry collectors only desire
those NOT altered by his son or his estate.) ANYWAY I wanted to let the general readers know that this is a charming, charming book. There are FIVE POP-UPS that each open up to cover 2 FULL PAGES. (In other words the POP-UP is NOT just on ONE page at a time
but covers 2 pages like a centerfold!) There are also little flaps
to open and slide. But THE BEST part of this book is YOU CAN TURN IT AROUND AND READ IT FROM BOTH SIDES! There is text and dialog going on all over this book! The plot is funny and interesting. Seems to be very well made. I think ANY Scarry collector, purist or not, would appreciate this book. Oh yes, the kids will love it too!
