Comment: This book has already been loved by someone else. It MIGHT have some wear and tear on the edges, have some markings in it, or be an ex-library book. Over-all itâ€TMs still a good book at a great price! (if it is supposed to contain a CD or access code, that may be missing)

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 1-Despite the prowling pirates that threaten the safety of Busytown Bay, Uncle Willy sails off, finds an island, and decides to take a nap before eating his pie. Soon, he is awakened by pirates and tossed overboard. After swimming to shore, he constructs a fake crocodile from plants and objects found on the island, crawls inside, and cleverly captures the villains. This adaptation of "Uncle Willy and the Pirates" from The Funniest Storybook Ever (Random, 1972) includes many of Scarry's well-known cat and mice characters. The bold-colored illustrations and a large typeface will contribute to the book's success with beginning readers.

AMUSING FIRST READERS TO KEEP YOUR FIRST TIME READER AMUSED BY BOOKS. First, there are the great drawings by richard scarry...enough said...he's great. And the title is a pun on the word "pirates" oh by the way my son picked that up.....mom was a "duh" about that little pun. But it's a cute and funny book...and it's also about finding solutions which is really valuable since first readers are usually new to school and need to start learning how to find their own solutions for new situations.

I first rented this book from our local library. My daughter (18 months) loved this book so much I purchased it for her. We have been reading it weekly since (24 months now). The illustrations are cute as is the story. My daughter enjoys completing the sentances. A few times, while she was playing, she would recite most of the book-- so cute!!! Also I've purchased other Step into Reading books (step 1 and 2) which she equally enjoys!!

When my son was in kindergarten he loved this book, now 20 years later I purchased the book again because I want to live that memory again and I couldn't find the original one in the house.

Bought it for my daughter's 42nd birthday. It was one of her favorite books when she was little. She was so happy she started reading it to her own children immediately!

Pie Rats Ahoy by Richard Scarry, is a wonderfully illustrated book that brought my 5-year-old daughter right into our pirate study. Some of the educational books were too old for her. I wanted to get a book that she would love and could read to me! All my children love author Richard Scarry, so this was a great find!
