A big hit with kids as young as 2 years old (though preschoolers tend to find it absolutely hilarious), Best Silly Stories and Videos begins with Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm making their way to a library, where they check out a book about silly stories, three of which come to life. Forgetful Mr. Rabbit strolls into fresh tar, extracts himself, and vows never to ignore his surroundings again--all while heading toward the edge of a dock. The next tale is a series classic about the incompetent Mr. Fix-It and his confusion over sorting out the pieces of broken toys. (He manages to make a cuckoo clock ring like a bell, a fire truck cry "Mama," and a doll screech like a siren.) The last vignette concerns a father and his twin children, who get into numerous misadventures when Dad leaves his glasses behind somewhere. Kids love it when they see the hapless pop mistake a succession of vehicles--including a fire truck and a banana mobile--for his own car. The songs scattered throughout this video also have comic appeal. --Tom Keogh

5.0 out of 5 stars My 21-month old twins love this video., February 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Richard Scarry's Best Silly Stories and Songs Video Ever! [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A great early childhood video. It was the first thing my 21-month old twins took an interest in outside of Teletubbies (and it was a welcome change). Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm go to the library to get a book. There is a song about the library and then Huckle chooses a book of silly stories. He and Lowly proceed to a shady spot under a tree and read three clever "silly stories" which contain a message or two (stop, look and listen). Definitely recommend for kids 18 months through preschool.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 2 year old loves it, and it doesn't drive me crazy!, April 12, 2002

My wife and I first found this at the video store and I'm ordering it along with the Best Learning Songs Ever. I remember fondly the books from childhood and was pleased to see the stories and art are just as fun as ever. Our 2 year old sits entranced. If you're like us you end up listening to and memorizing all your toddler's videos. This video is easy to hear and see over and over, and is a great break from that wonderful, but high-pitched and hyper entertainer, Elmo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for 4 year olds, especially those who love Richard Scarry!, February 24, 2006
My 4 year old son loves these videos, we had owned all but this one. He watches this one over and over because the stories in this video are in his books, so now he sees them 'come to life' on tv. Highly recommend these videos as they contain nice gentle songs and dialogue. Very relaxing to watch for my son and not annoying for me.
