This review is from: Richard Scarry's A Story A Day 365 Stories and Rhymes (Hardcover)
When I was a little girl my mom would read this book to my sister & I every nite. We always looked forwarded to having a story read from the book. I am 26 now and I treasure the book very much, even with out the cover intact! My sister is pregnant and I would like to order the book for her so her child can enjoy what we did. Please make the book available soon!!! Thank You.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for young readers, April 28, 2000

This review is from: Richard Scarry's A Story A Day 365 Stories and Rhymes (Hardcover)
If you can find a copy of this book, I recommend it highly as perfect for young readers. The stories and poems are very short and to the point so a child won't be overwhelmed by a huge plot or excess of words. This was one of my first books and one from which my mom taught me to read at 3 years of age. I hope to do the same with my daughter.

This is one of my favorite books -- both as a child and as an adult with my own child. Every day there's a new story, which was fun to read "that day" and also to jump around. The stories are short enough for kids to get through in one before-bedtime sitting, and they are all very interesting and diverse. As with many if not all Scarry books, the illustrations make it worthwhile, as they are as rich and detailed as the words are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the young and young at heart, August 16, 2011

This review is from: Richard Scarry's A Story A Day 365 Stories and Rhymes (Hardcover)
My mom bought this book for me when I was in first grade, and I loved it. They're so much different than the drivel that passes for children's books these days, and and so much better. Seasonally appropriate stories and poems take children through the months of year and teach them little lessons about being kind and using their imaginations. I loved the illustrations as a child, and recommend Richard Scarry books to anyone looking for a books for very young kids--there is so much going on in them, and they are a treasure trove for a child.

I rebought this book used last year, to keep as a foundation for my future children's library. I can't imagine them growing up without it. I'm so glad they won't have to!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treasure for children's bedtime, December 2, 2007

This review is from: Richard Scarry's A Story A Day 365 Stories and Rhymes (Hardcover)
My mother and father read us stories from this book when we were children and my brother and sister and I waited each day for the appointed story. There is a poem kittens called "Peep in a Basket" that I can recite word for word to this day at the age of 45. Although my own daughter is grown and moved away, I keep a copy of the book on hand for when my neices and nephews and god-children visit. The stories in this book are sweet and short and have withstood the test of time. They are not too long and are good for parents to find a stopping point at bedtime. When we pressed my mother to read another story, my mother would always say, "Well, what will I read to you tomorrow?" and closed the book, leaving us wanting to open the book again the next evening. I hope this book never goes out of print. Highly recommended.
