3.0 out of 5 stars Richard Scarry's Bedtime Stories
This is a delightful books for young readers -- it falls in the 4-8 age range, but is probably more appropriate for 3-5 age range. Some of our favorite characters, Lowly, Huckle and friends ease younger sleepers into sleep. It was particularly helpful in lulling to sleep a newly-minted older brother who was eager not to miss any of his new baby's "action."...

This was needless to say rather disappointing to find out, following the online purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Original Richard Scarry you loved as a kid, September 5, 2005
This edition preserves the original Richard Scarry artwork and text from the 1970's that I grew up with (and loved) as a kid. Some of the new (1990 and on) editions of Scarry stories have art that is slightly "off" from Scarry's style, and text that does not convey Scarry's wit and fun storytelling style. Rest assured that this edition has both of those!

3.0 out of 5 stars Bedtime stories? Some, not all., January 11, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As usual Richard Scarry's illustrations are wonderful. However, the first story in this book is about pirates and a "ferocious monster". Not sure why you would include a story like this before bedtime?? The other stories are fine, but if your child gets scared easily maybe the other stories would be better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really bedtime stories...., November 3, 2006

Ordered this for our two and a half year old. He likes the stories and they are indeed cute stories but they are not bedtime related stories which is what we were expecting. Of course, ANY story could be a bedtime story which I'm sure is what the compilers of this book had going on.

Enjoyed the book, my issue is my fault I was looking for a book with a lot of short stories. This one has about 4 but if I would have read I would see that. Great stories, I wanted a book I could read to my baby and this fits the bill.
Fast shipper, great condition just as described..thanks will order from this seller again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor formatting ruins this, January 19, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm extremely disappointed with the quality of this book - despite being a picture book, the text is independent of the pictures and the pictures are tiny on an iPad. As far as kids go, it's a sad excuse for a book. Not worth buying and I'm sorely disappointed in the quality of the experience. Save your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars in paperback form and 2 stars in e-book form, January 10, 2012
By

I love Richard Scarry's books and as a paperback this gets 5 stars but the e-book is a disappointment.
The picture is on one page and the text is on another. So, let's start at the beginning of the book. We turn to the first page, it is a little cat in a boat, we don't know what is going on until we swipe the screen and get to the next page that has the words. The kids have nothing to look at while I read all of the words because the picture was on the page before. I don't know if my kids are just impatient but they really like to look at the pictures when I read so this e-book was kind of a bummer.

I read this e-book on my kindle fire, maybe it would work better on other devices.
The pictures on the Kindle fire were very small, they didn't take up the whole screen.

I guess I am sticking for traditional children's books for now.

Oh, I have bought a few Dr. Seuss's story books by Oceanhouse Media, Inc. They are an application and they work really well. If you were going to buy a book for your device I would suggest the ones that are applications instead of the regular e-book form.

I wish they had a separate place to review the e-books and the paperbacks.

Edit:
I discovered I can flip my kindle vertically and then the words and pictures will be on the same page but then the pictures are pretty small.

2.0 out of 5 stars Review for the Kindle Fire readers, December 24, 2011

I loved Scarry's books as a child. So, I was excited to see this advertised as one of the "Kindle Fire Books for Children." I am very disappointed on the formatting of the ebook. The pictures are tiny. In addition, there are some pages that are only text, that correspond to the picture-only page before it. My 2.5 year old son wants to turn the page to the next picture before I'm done with the text. Stick to buying the real book.
