4.0 out of 5 stars This is great for someone who has a lot of weight to lose.
I have this video and love to exercise with it. If you have a great deal of weight to lose, and are tired of looking at all the perfect hard bodies out there, this video lets you exercise with others who you can relate to. I think that Richard Simmons tries to seek out those who don't have the perfect "10" body. His enthusiasm rubs off on you. However, you...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun music but you might trip over your own feet.
I bought this tape mostly because of the fun music. I'm not sure what I expected when I thought about the dancing part of the video. In "Sweatin to the Oldies" for example, the only "dancing" you do is the twist. So I guess I expected this video to be more fun type dancing. Well, there are about a million different moves and he doesn't do anything...

I think that Richard Simmons tries to seek out those who don't have the perfect "10" body. His enthusiasm rubs off on you. However, you have to stick with it a few days so that you can catch on to the moves. I love the end of the video where it shows the amounts of weight that the people exercising on the video have lost. It really gives you hope. From my experience, most other exercise videos are meant only for those who already have the perfect body. Richard's are meant for "REAL" people like you and me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recommended, August 21, 2000

I alternate this with the "Sweating to the Oldies 2" video. This one takes about 45 minutes and is mostly aerobic with emphasis on lower body (I really feel it in my calves!). This tape has excellent warm-up and cool-down. In comparison, the "STO 2" video takes about an hour and includes a resistive upper body workout and floor abdominal routine along with aerobic. I am a beginner, and these tapes seem just right. I SWEAT, but I can do it. If you are overweight or have a fairly sedentary lifestyle, Richard is a good way to start! He has a way of motivating you to keep with it. Both have the feel of dance routines, which I have found to be enjoyable. But he doesn't give a lot of instruction on the steps or warnings before changes...so it takes a while to get it down. But, even if I don't stay with the steps exactly, at least I'm moving & sweating - you will be, too! I always feel better after doing these videos.

I started doing "Dance your pants off" about 10 months ago and I am happy to say that I have lost almost 40 lbs. and have gone from a size 12-13 pant to a size 7-8. I watched what I ate but Richard Simmons was my main focus everyday. I did the tape everyday and the results are wonderful! I really recommend this to anyone interested in losing weight and having a great time at the same time! Richard Simmons is such an inspiration in Dance Your Pants Off. You will feel so much better about yourself after doing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Stuff, March 21, 2000

This is an aerobic video like the Sweatin' to the Oldies videos but with 80's music. The opening song is Celebration which I find really motivating. I'm still learning the steps but it's so much fun that I want to keep doing it. I'm a child of the 80's and I especially enjoy exercising to songs like Call Me and All Night Long. If you're like me and you hate the perky spandex clad instructors and the lousy elevator music on most exercise videos then you might want to give this a try. It's a lot of fun.

Richard cracks me up, and he leads a great workout. His routines take a little time to learn, but once you have them down, they're fun! This routine is arguably both his toughest and the most fun to do. It's shorter than most of his other aerobic tapes (only 27 minutes aerobic), but the music is fun, the routines are a blast, and Richard's enthusiasm keeps you going. If you like 80's classics, you'll like the music for sure. I highly recommend this tape!

I'm not one of those folks that thinks exercise is 'fun.' I exercise only because I've been trying to lose weight the past several months. This video, though, is something I can physically do that I actually enjoy. As a child of the '80s, I think the songs are great, and the workout is enough to make me sweat without being discouragingly hard.
I also like that the video isn't populated by smiling hardbodies who've never struggled with their weight a day in their life. The people in this video look like me, which is also encouraging.

I have a few other videos, none as fun as this one. I got through it the first time I played it, which is unusual. I'd get tired, and just try to finish out that song... then when the next one comes on, it will perked me up so much, that I'd say to yourself...well after this one... then I might stop. I didn't stop! I kept going and made it all the way through! This is very encouraging for someone that is just starting up their exercizing. Its a lot of fun and easy to follow.

This is by far one of Richard Simmons best videos. It is for an intermediate level. You can easily catch on to all the moves after about 3 tries! It is short enough to stick with, and long enough to get results. If you are in top shape, this is too easy for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review on video, July 27, 2000
By A Customer

I have been using this video for about four months. It is a very good aerobic work out. It raises your heart rate and makes you sweat. I began using this video instead of walking because I found that walking is not intense enough for me and this raised my heart rate more. It took about a month to learn all the steps and to work up to doing the whole video, but the challange made it interesting. At the end of the video there is a cool down where they have a guest singing "The Rose." My impression is she is the one who wrote the song. I do like this video. Richard tries to make exercise fun. The novelty wore off however. After I learned all the dances by heart I began playing my own music or autobooks. Except I never turn it down when "Conga" comes on, that's my favorite.

I bought this tape mostly because of the fun music. I'm not sure what I expected when I thought about the dancing part of the video. In "Sweatin to the Oldies" for example, the only "dancing" you do is the twist. So I guess I expected this video to be more fun type dancing. Well, there are about a million different moves and he doesn't do anything twice. You start to do one thing and he changes to another. I was falling over my feet and quickly became frustrated. I broke a sweat just trying to follow what they were doing which was so frustrating I shut the tape off. The next night I tried it again and I've done the routine 3-4 times now and it does get easier. I don't think it was meant for beginners but it doesn't tell you that anywhere. The other thing about this tape that sort of bugged me were all the cute skinny women who looked like they were semi-professional dancers. He usually always has a mix of people in his tapes but not once did he actually dance next to a normal or heavy person.
