Jack Richeson Full Box French Style Easel

The overall quality is not as good as Mabef easel, which I own and is now being used by another family member. But, at less than half the price, it is more than adequate and is a good value. The easel is just as stable and has the same features as the Mabef, but the fit and finish of the wood and some of the hardware is inferior. One suggestion to improve the functionality is to add the "missing" brass washers to the side thumb-screws that adjust the angle of the box top, which is also the top part of the easel. This little improvement makes it much easier to adjust the angle, as well as making it easier to open and close the box.

I had the good fortune to tour the Richeson Easel Factory. I was truly impressed! Incredible craftsmanship, attention to detail, and as I came to find out, service oriented. I would never buy a different brand after seeing what went into it. Extra note: They use Lyptus wood. As hard as oak, but a renewable resource. When you buy one, it tells you all about it. Really fine easels.

When looking for an easel I was amazed at how expensive they were. I wanted to get one, but wasnt ready to shell out $150 to $400 for a full sized portable easel. My main concern when ordering this easel was the level of quality. When it arrived I was relived to find it was pretty nice. I feel this easel is a great value, and you definitely get your moneys worth. The one thing I would like to be better is the leg strength. They are adequate, but could be stonger/more stable.....however, when painting or drawing, the easel does not move. I recommend this easel.

I really needed an easel and bought this one because of the urging of a friend of mine. So far the easel has been great. My only qualm is that you have to set up the legs perfectly and be very careful tightening the moving parts down. It get a little wobbly when you don't. Other than that minor annoyance this easel has performed very well.

This easel is functional and durable. The wood is a bit on the soft side (if you want to nitpick - for a student grade, it's excellent). It's stood up to heavy use for almost a month, and I expect it to last up to five years. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it. Some easels of this type come with paints, this one didn't, which if you already have paints is a money saver. It comes with a wooden palette which I threw away. Generally good, as expected, student grade easel. It's great for your high school or college art student, of which I'm the latter.

I've seen many easels and for the price this is right up there with the very, very expensive ones! It is just beautiful and it folds up beautifully to make it very portable! Go for it!

The dimensions of the box are good, along with the price (very inexpensive): however, the compressed wood and smell are a convincing argument for buying a slightly more expensive Art easel from another company. If you are looking for something functional and cheap, this is it; if you also want it to last, you might want to look somewhere else.

Product came in a timely manner. It is a great deal cheaper than many of the other similar products out there but not cheaply made! The wood smells lovely and it came with a shoulder strap which makes it so easy to carry!

This easel is of decent construction for the price. It works quite well for carrying out in the field. I rubbed mine down with some (cheap hardware store) linseed oil. Makes it nice and rich and protects it. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in plein aire painting.
