70's punk is still alive,
By Tad (callifornia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Richmond Sluts (Audio CD)
This album is great. These guys have the feel of a 70's punk band, like the New York Dolls, but they started about a year and a half ago. This is their first full-length album. I must say, it is absolutely fabulous. The best tracks are 1 (Take you Home) and 10 (Thought I Was Dead.) Anybody who likes 70's punk will like this. Buy it.

The Sluts rise far above,
By Cheryl Botchik (CMJ Music) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Richmond Sluts (Audio CD)
Forgive us for taking liberties with an old tried-and-true, but the more the music world changes, the more a segment of the rock 'n' roll scene stays precisely the same. With a kind of religious fervor, garage punk rockers of a particular stripe carry on in the face of hip-hop, electronica, indie rock and more in the name of their idol, Johnny Thunders. San Francisco's Richmond Sluts are his newest disciples. All in their early twenties and sporting haircuts that went out of style roughly two decades before they were even born, the 'Sluts rise far above the din of garage revivalists by virtue of their white-hot playing and snotty-sounding lead singer, Shea Roberts. Any astute music fan will recognize that the 'Sluts are racking up a debt toward the New York Dolls, and that Roberts is often the spitting sonic image of the Dead Boys' Stiv Bators. But between the band's near-match of its idols (as opposed to simply mimicking their sound, as many garage bands are wont to do), and the fact that those original, seminal artists are long since six feet under, you'll be hard-pressed to complain.
