70's punk is still alive,
By Tad (callifornia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Richmond Sluts (Audio CD)
This album is great. These guys have the feel of a 70's punk band, like the New York Dolls, but they started about a year and a half ago. This is their first full-length album. I must say, it is absolutely fabulous. The best tracks are 1 (Take you Home) and 10 (Thought I Was Dead.) Anybody who likes 70's punk will like this. Buy it.

The Sluts rise far above,
By Cheryl Botchik (CMJ Music) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Richmond Sluts (Audio CD)
Forgive us for taking liberties with an old tried-and-true, but the more the music world changes, the more a segment of the rock 'n' roll scene stays precisely the same. With a kind of religious fervor, garage punk rockers of a particular stripe carry on in the face of hip-hop, electronica, indie rock and more in the name of their idol, Johnny Thunders. San Francisco's Richmond Sluts are his newest disciples. All in their early twenties and sporting haircuts that went out of style roughly two decades before they were even born, the 'Sluts rise far above the din of garage revivalists by virtue of their white-hot playing and snotty-sounding lead singer, Shea Roberts. Any astute music fan will recognize that the 'Sluts are racking up a debt toward the New York Dolls, and that Roberts is often the spitting sonic image of the Dead Boys' Stiv Bators. But between the band's near-match of its idols (as opposed to simply mimicking their sound, as many garage bands are wont to do), and the fact that those original, seminal artists are long since six feet under, you'll be hard-pressed to complain.

spread this around like a disease,
This review is from: Richmond Sluts (Audio CD)
it's like this, you know who when the rolling stones or the new york dolls would always be tounge-firmly-in-cheeck when they talked about women or drugs. Well imagine the fact that these guys have their tounges right f**king out there panting and drooling over some "City Girls" in the "Sad City*. If every band had this much balls bands like "Jet" woulda never taken off. In fact if you like Jet remotely, these guys are them only MUCH better and turned to eleven and hell, probably more buzzed then those aussies.Get this cd, and enough of my yackin.

Simply put, I had an orgasm while listening to this CD. If you're a fan of the NY Dolls, The MC5, The Stooges, or DEFINITELY Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers, check this album out. That's all there is to it. Check it out.

you're about to get hooked up !!!!!,

This review is from: Richmond Sluts (Audio CD)
This album came out somewhere in 2001 but it could easily have been released in 1973. Everythings sounds and looks like a forgotten band from the 70's. It's kind of a mix between the stooges, MC5, ramones and the early 70's stones. The organ adds a little psychedelic groove to the equation. Listen this just one time and you'll be hooked up (like me for the last 2 years). In case Shea or Chris is reading this, guys, you definitely need to come play in France. PLEASE !

This review is from: Richmond Sluts (Audio CD)
I discovered The Richmond Sluts sometime in 2002 and it appears they are running around as "Big Midnight". I have to simply say I've been waiting for this sound for a long time... buy this cd... and Big Midnight's... and turn off the damn radio.

a new take on an old sound,
By "reader684" (Washington) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Richmond Sluts (Audio CD)
Though their appearence will evoke images of the New York Dolls or a less-grungey Ramones, their sound is unique in a field that is strong but lacks major individuality. the entire CD is listenable and has quite a bit of musical variety.
