4.0 out of 5 stars Good Newspaper For Those Looking For News in the Richmond-area May 21, 2009

Growing up in Louisa County on the border with Hanover I remember way back when this newspaper was delivered to my house. I enjoyed reading it, and getting local news instead of just watching the national news stations on my satellite. Since then I have joined the military and am currently stationed in North Carolina. I bought a Kindle 2 some months ago after coming home from overseas and when I first got it looked for this paper which wasn't yet available. I tried the Washington Post, only to find most of the stories out of my home state were from Northern Virginia, fairly far from where I wanted news out of, so I canceled my subscription to that, sticking with the Wall Street Journal for national news. I discovered this paper was available yesterday, and am quite happy with it. With the Governor's seat up for grabs I am glad there is a way for me to get all the news I need to make a decision for who to vote for, plus the local news that impacts my family and friends back home.

For those of you looking for news outside the Richmond area this isn't a newspaper you'd be interested in. The paper (especially the Kindle version) really only covers the Richmond area. I would say that anyone who doesn't get their local TV stations out Richmond wouldn't much care for this paper. One more thing: the Kindle version does include op-ed pieces, however they're in the "News" section right before the letters the editor. Hopefully "Editorial Pages" will be it's own section in the future.

Overall this paper provides a concise and cost-effective means of getting all the news you need out of the Richmond area, and some national headlines, on your Kindle. Not given five stars only because Op-Ed is not it's own section.

I've had a Kindle subscription to the Richmond Times Dispatch for almost a year and a half. I was quite impressed and satisfied with it until the Times Dispatch made a change in format in the first week of December 2010. With that change, Kindle subscribers no longer receive a full issue, but what looks to be about 75% of the articles previously provided. This was acknowledged in the Sunday 12/12 edition, but only stated that they are working to correct it.

After writing this review on 12/13, the issue was corrected with the 12/15 issue. It looks like things are back to normal in the Kindle version. Amazon even followed up via phone to let me know that the issue had been resolved!

I'm changing my review to 5 stars because it's been great to have the RTD on my Kindle that I take with me everyday!

I have tried pretty much all of the Kindle newspapers in the past year and a half. I was very excited to see the Richmond Times Dispatch become available. I did not expect to see it so soon! If you read this paper and like Kindle newspapers...it will meet your needs.
