Has it REALLY been 17 years???-Nah cause I'm only 20...., July 19, 2002
This review is from: Rick Springfield - The Beat of the Live Drum (DVD)
I consider myself one, along with many others, as one of Rick's biggest fans, following his career from about the time I was 10 and up through the present day.
And for us teens in the 80's who were Rick fans this gave us a chance to see him in concert, I have seen him a total of four times live- in my life time-- twice as a teen, twice as an adult
and each time you see Rick, even today the shows have the same energy and vibe as "Beat of the Live Drum" captures in 1985.
And as any money challenged teen from 1985- (no money for actual concert tix) will tell you,
having Rick, in concert, even via the TV, got adolescent girls
what I have called ( and possibly many others)Through a "Rick Fix".
And also I believe that for those of you that have not seen this
concert on video either because you just hadn't had the opportunity to see it
it, or you weren't a fan of Rick's in the 80's,
Give it a shot because, Rick is the consummate show- man with
consummate skill... of never leaving an audience disppointed.
As far as previous comments (by other posters) being written
that Rick uses a vulgar gesture I have watched this on tape many times and I have not seen it, perhaps the poster was looking for things, to be able to post negative comments about Rick.
My opinion is that Rick has ALWAYS been respectful to his audience
and that is why he is so great to see live, he really connects with his audience and seems to be grateful to everyone who comes out to see his shows.
Thanks to all whom read post.
PS- BTW I'll actually be 34 in October
but this concert takes me back to being 17 again
AH nostalgia...

Classic Performance, July 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Rick Springfield - The Beat of the Live Drum (DVD)
This performance had nothing to do with the 80s... just go see one of his concerts today. He's just as energetic and vibrant as he's been for over 20 years.
I dunno what that other person was referring to, but Rick was not "crawling around" as if to compare to some of today's bubble-gum pop princess-types... he would get down on the stage to get closer to the fans. And there was nothing like a "middle finger" in the manner that viewer conveyed.
This concert is good clean fun with a playlist full of memorable songs performed by the man that made them great. Good light show, good special effects, and it even incorporates some videos fo the "Tao" release. It's been a long time coming and it's worth the wait.

Like a fine wine...Rick Springfield gets better with age!, October 7, 2002
This review is from: Rick Springfield - The Beat of the Live Drum (DVD)
I remember when this video came out on VHS in 1985 I rented it numerous times back then I couldn't afford to buy it. I never thought I would give this concert less than 5 stars but seeing him again in concert in 2002 has truly been an eye opening experience. I updated all my old tapes with CD's and have been looking for this particular DVD. I am glad that I do have this to add to my collection but I was dissapointed in the fact that he never even talked to all the screaming fans..he was more into putting on an excellent concert and it was too choregraphed Rick seems to be somewhere else. I know I am being bold in making these statements but he didnt seem to be enjoying the stage like he does now I just see such a HUGE difference in his performances now. He is so personable and he acts happy to be on stage smiling, cracking jokes, bringing fans up on stage, going out in the crowd with his guitar and singing with such passion. I hope he puts out another concert DVD soon that expresses his recent concert success. Don't get me wrong it was very enjoyable to see this concert again it brought back a lot of memories from the 80's I just feel that he is getting better with age and you can't always say that about past teen idols!!!
