About the Actor

Rick Springfield has withstood the test of time far better than most critics would ever have imagined writing and performing some of the best-crafted power pop of the past 30 years. A much sought after and highly accomplished lead guitarist in his native Australia, he garnered his first U.S. success with a re-recording of his Australian hit "Speak to the Sky" (Capitol, 1972, #14). Rick went on to record the masterful Wait For Night, only to have the album abandoned promotionally when the parent record label collapsed in 1976. A breakthrough came when Rick was able to secure a recording contract with RCA on the strength of his next batch of demos. In the midst of recording what would become the quintessential pop album Working Class Dog, for his debut on the RCA label, Rick was cast to play the young, eligible Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital in 1981. Rick's popularity skyrocketed, setting the stage for the imminent release of Working Class Dog later that year. Powered by 3 Top 40 hits including the classic the classic Number One Hit Jessie's Girl, (RCA, 1981, # 1) and the Top Ten follow-up I've Done Everything for You, (RCA, 1981, #8) as well as the party-starter, Love is Alright Tonite, Working Class Dog enjoyed multi-platinum smash success. The follow-up album, Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet, again reached multi-platinum certification after its release in 1982, spawning the smash hit Don't Talk to Strangers (RCA, 1982, #2); 1983's Living in Oz took an edgier stance musically, spawning the Top Ten Hit Affair of the Heart. (RCA, 1983, #9) as well as the crowd pleasing arms-in-the-air hit Human Touch (RCA, 1983, #18) When Springfield made his big screen debut in 1984 for the movie Hard to Hold, the soundtrack found Rick with another Top Five hit, Love Somebody. (RCA, 1984, #5) Rick's recording career continued with Tao (1985), and 1988's Rock of Life. Rick took time off from recording to settle in with family life and subsequently released Sahara Snow in 1997, his first full album of collaborative work with Tim Pierce and Bob Marlette. Karma , released in 1998, coincided with Rick's full blown return to the concert stage performing to sell out crowds as fans clamored to the internet, hungry for word of Rick's return to their hometown. The power of the critically acclaimed shock/denial/anger/acceptance (2004) propelled Rick onward, touring continuously through 2004 into 2005. The "Shock Tour" culminated with a raucous cold-out concert in Rockford, IL. Rick has sold over 19 million records while charting a whopping 17 Top 40 hits to date. Having performed for millions of fans over the last three decades, and showing no signs of slowing down, Rick continues to play 100 shows a year, sharing his love of performing, unstoppable energy and his unique brand of crowd interaction with thousands of fans each night. Rick literally wades deep into the crowd at each show. Rick Springfield is currently on tour to support his new release The Day After Yesterday.

This Rick Springfield project would have been better off released as

a music CD rather then a film Dvd. I found the performance / stage

presence of Rick and The Band to be exceptional; but, was very

dis-appointed with the way it was captured / edited for dvd release.

I understand that the camera crew / film editers were trying to give the

project an MTV fast paced fever-pitch quality by constantly changing

camera views; but, they just didn't seem to have a sense of timing in

allowing the cameras to linquer on Springfield for longer periods of

time to capture the visual intensity and emotion that he put into each

song. Camera angles kept changing every other minute giving the

performance a very ragged unprofessional look. I kept wondering if

this was the first time this camera crew had ever gotten together....had

ever shot anything before this concert.

To be fair.... by the end of the concert ( the encore) - it seemed that the

camera crew got tired - allowed the cameras to stay focus'd entirely on

Springfield. I was totally mesmerized - caught up in those songs - !

The back stage interviews with Springfield were done well ! Fun to watch .

Brought back a lot of memories about the way the music scene use to be

in the seventies and eighties. It was a back stage pass to hang out with

a very likable man who just happens to also be a pop star Icon.

- would I advice someone to buy this Cd ? sure . absolutely ! -

-soooo many great songs on this dvd-

you take what you can get if you're a devoted Springfield fan !

The dvd captures the spirit, enthusiasm and energy of a live Rick concert. I was thrilled to buy it and watch it over and over! He is clearly still live & kickin', moves around kicking, swirling, spinning, guitar strumming even more than the 80s. Your favs and a few new wonders are in the tracks and the man's gorgeous green eyes show up quite well on screen. It's fun seeing his audience interaction and I highly recommend the cd to fans and non fans alike. Just a fun energetic viewing experience. He got my State of the Heart....

Since seeing the video of "I get excited" back in the 80's I have always wanted to have a dvd of Rick. I was a bit disappointed to watch a song in concert and suddenly find myself listening to an interview with Rick before the song continues. This breaks the flow of the concert. Surely they could have kept all interviews as added "special features". The music includes many of Rick's greatest songs!

I have to admit that the clear picture, 5.1 Dolby Digital sound and song list are quite impressive but not enough to satisfy me completely. Unfortunately the poor camera angles and bad editing from the producers of this DVD took away from the flow of Rick's performance leaving me a little disappointed with this particular concert.

Don't get me wrong, Rick Springfield is a great showman on stage but in this concert he goes overboard in my opinion with the drama. Rick is constantly stopping during songs to talk and goof around with the audience and it completely detracts from his performance. I've seen a couple of Rick's live shows throughout the years and this wasn't what I was used to. I would have liked to see the old high energy Rick Springfield without all the theatrics on stage.

When I buy a concert DVD, I like to see the main focus on the band and not the crowd. If the camera guys would have focused more on Rick and the band and less on the crowd, the viewing experience would have definitely been better for me. I bought the "Live in Rockford" concert DVD to see Rick Springfield sing and play guitar like he used to but in the end it just wasn't enough to completely satisfy me.

Rick's a good musician and performer with a great catalog of songs. I just wish the production values of the DVD could have been better!

It was good to finally see a modern, full length Rick concert released. My only gripe is that the sound could have been a bit fuller. Anyone familiar with his "Greatest Hits Alive" CD might have become accustomed to a heavier sound for his live performances. Besides that, it was a great concert and recording. I was especially impressed with the songs performed from SDAA and TDAY, which were performed with that little bit more confidence than some of the older material. That said, the acoustic guitar version of "My father's chair" (included as an extra track?) was brilliant. Fans new and old won't be disappointed with this purchase. It would be good to see vintage tracks like "Speak to the sky" and "Comic book heroes" performed in concert though, just for old times sake.
