Technically Disappointed with Live In Rockford,
By
This review is from: Rick Springfield: Live in Rockford (DVD)
This Rick Springfield project would have been better off released as
a music CD rather then a film Dvd. I found the performance / stage presence of Rick and The Band to be exceptional; but, was very dis-appointed with the way it was captured / edited for dvd release. I understand that the camera crew / film editers were trying to give the project an MTV fast paced fever-pitch quality by constantly changing camera views; but, they just didn't seem to have a sense of timing in allowing the cameras to linquer on Springfield for longer periods of time to capture the visual intensity and emotion that he put into each song. Camera angles kept changing every other minute giving the performance a very ragged unprofessional look. I kept wondering if this was the first time this camera crew had ever gotten together....had ever shot anything before this concert. To be fair.... by the end of the concert ( the encore) - it seemed that the camera crew got tired - allowed the cameras to stay focus'd entirely on Springfield. I was totally mesmerized - caught up in those songs - ! The back stage interviews with Springfield were done well ! Fun to watch . Brought back a lot of memories about the way the music scene use to be in the seventies and eighties. It was a back stage pass to hang out with a very likable man who just happens to also be a pop star Icon. - would I advice someone to buy this Cd ? sure . absolutely ! - -soooo many great songs on this dvd- you take what you can get if you're a devoted Springfield fan !

The dvd captures the spirit, enthusiasm and energy of a live Rick concert. I was thrilled to buy it and watch it over and over! He is clearly still live & kickin', moves around kicking, swirling, spinning, guitar strumming even more than the 80s. Your favs and a few new wonders are in the tracks and the man's gorgeous green eyes show up quite well on screen. It's fun seeing his audience interaction and I highly recommend the cd to fans and non fans alike. Just a fun energetic viewing experience. He got my State of the Heart....

Since seeing the video of "I get excited" back in the 80's I have always wanted to have a dvd of Rick. I was a bit disappointed to watch a song in concert and suddenly find myself listening to an interview with Rick before the song continues. This breaks the flow of the concert. Surely they could have kept all interviews as added "special features". The music includes many of Rick's greatest songs!

Live in Rockford review,

It was good to finally see a modern, full length Rick concert released. My only gripe is that the sound could have been a bit fuller. Anyone familiar with his "Greatest Hits Alive" CD might have become accustomed to a heavier sound for his live performances. Besides that, it was a great concert and recording. I was especially impressed with the songs performed from SDAA and TDAY, which were performed with that little bit more confidence than some of the older material. That said, the acoustic guitar version of "My father's chair" (included as an extra track?) was brilliant. Fans new and old won't be disappointed with this purchase. It would be good to see vintage tracks like "Speak to the sky" and "Comic book heroes" performed in concert though, just for old times sake.

NOT THE RICK I REMEMBER,

I have to admit that the clear picture, 5.1 Dolby Digital sound and song list are quite impressive. Unfortunately the poor camera angles and bad editing took away from the flow of Rick's performance leaving me disappointed. Rick Springfield is a great showman on stage but in this concert he goes overboard with the drama. Rick is constantly stopping during songs to talk and goof around with the audience and it completely detracts from his performance. If the camera guys would have focused more on Rick and the band and less on the crowd, the viewing experience would have been better. I bought this concert DVD to see Rick Springfield sing and play guitar but it just wasn't enough to completely satisfy me.

"Baker Street" 10. "Broken Wings" 11. "Beautiful You" 12. "Living in Oz" 13. "Love Somebody" 14. "Jesus Saves" 15. "Kristina" 16. "Human Touch" 17. "Jessie's Girl" Bonus Tracks: 1. Unbelievable live experience captured on DVD,
This review is from: Rick Springfield: Live in Rockford (DVD)
I recently attended Rick's show in Stafford, Texas (Oct 2006) and was pleasantly surprised to learn that the Rockford DVD had just been released. Watching this DVD enables me to relive the concert - which for anyone who has ever attended a Rick concert- is a great thing! I continue to be blown away by his guitar talent, energy, and love for his audience and performing. If you've not seen the recent "Rick Springfield", I highly suggest you take a peek. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I know I'm not - what a great entertainer!

Good Concert,

I'm a big Rick Springfield fan, so I was very excited about this DVD. The concert was good, the photography was a little disappointing. Not enough close ups, and a little jumpy. That's why I gave ity 4 instead of 5 stars. My complaint with all concert recordings is too much audience time, I could care less about them! But that's just me...

MICHAEL MANNING REVIEW OF LIVE IN ROCKFORD,
This review is from: Rick Springfield: Live in Rockford (DVD)
Having had the privilege of working with Rick and his staff at a fund raiser, I am also a super fan. Rick Springfield is without a doubt, the most under-rated guitarist and composer in today's music scene. If you doubt this, the price of the DVD is worth just his performance of Jimi Hendrix's "Red House" alone. If there was a photo in any dictionary next to the word "Determination", then Rick Springfield's picture would be suitably placed with that word. Through hard work, he became the epitome of "The American Dream". His current music reflects an edgier, sledge hammer rock and roll with high energy and plenty of musical chops. Further, each concert is communal. Believe me, I've been to several shows. And each one is fresh and backed with a rhythm line up that is second to none. Rick Springfield "Live in Rockford" is the personification to me about what a Rock and Roll concert experience should be. Do not miss this man when he comes to your town!
