Look at the table of contents before buying this book. There are nearly 50 countries in Europe. This book only mentions 10 of them. Of those mentioned many popular and interesting cities are omitted. For example in the Germany chapter there is no mention of Munich, for Belgium no Brussels or Antwerp, for Switzerland no Zurich or Geneva, and on and on. In fact only 22 cities/locales in all of Europe are mentioned.
I travel to Europe frequently and prefer my Lonely Planet "Europe on a Shoestring," nearly an encyclopedia for travelers in Europe. For individual countries and cities the Michelin Green Guides are without equal.

Just like all the reviews on his previous year's copies, this version is a great resource for planning a European trip. My fiance and I used it (and still are) when planning our three week honeymoon, and its been invaluable. I haven't read any of the previous versions, so I can't say what has changed this year. Definitely start with this book when planning your vacation, as it answers a lot of your most basic questions and gives a great overview of Europe to help you start with a rough itinerary.

Great quick overviews of key European cities,

The concise suggestions for each city are very helpful. The only thing (which has been mentioned in another view I read) which I would love is if Munich was also included in the book. The other cities we had planned to visit were all featured in the book (London, Paris, Bacharach, Rottenberg, and Vienna). We will continue to dream and plan for our future trip, when health and weather permit (currently deferred by the Icelandic volcano).

My wife and I have used the information to book hotels. We will be carrying the book during our train travels in Europe this June. The book neatly complements Rick's informative video DVDs about Europe.

Have been to Europe over 30 times, but always there is something new to learn. Rick has a wonderful way of explaining and helping you understand the area you are exploring. I always check new places out with Rick before going!

This has been a very helpful book in our planning for our trip to Europe. Rick Steves does an excellent job of giving detailed information, maps, as well as places of interest. You can't go wrong with any of Rick Steves' books.

the book seems to be full of information and yet in a small enough size that you could take it with you to Europe. The pages are a little thin and feel kinda cheap. Thats why i would recommend buying a used copy because $24.99 seems kind of pricey. Plus if you did take it with you on your trip you could give it to another travaler at the end of you vacation without feeling bad that you gave away 25 bucks. Through out the book steve list places that offer discounts if you do show them this book.
Over all its a great buy for used copys at just a couple of dollars! and if you need to get an idea of what europe has to offer.

I've been reading Rick Steves travel books since my first trip to Europe. Now every time I travel I research if he's written a travel book about my next destination, if he has I purchase it right away.
His books are always extremely informative and he gives you some great insider tips most tourists won't find out in other travel books. The books come from a personal point of view through his own experiences, which is why I rarely trust any other travel guide. Rick Steves is my official European Guru! |
