Book Description

November 23, 2010 Rick Steves
You can count on Rick Steves to tell you what you really need to know when traveling in France. With this guide, you’ll explore sleepy villages, romantic hill towns, and cosmopolitan cities, including Paris, Avignon, and Nice. Climb the Eiffel Tower, wander world-renowned museums, and dine at sidewalk cafés. Then escape to the sunny countryside, where you can explore castles of all shapes and sizes or pedal your way from village to vineyard. With its Swiss-like Alps, Italian-style Riviera, and Germanic Alsace, France offers Europe’s greatest variety. A good vin rouge is never more than a stroll away. Rick’s candid, humorous advice will guide you to good-value hotels and restaurants. He’ll help you plan where to go and what to see, depending on the length of your trip. You’ll get up-to-date recommendations about what is worth your time and money. More than just reviews and directions, a Rick Steves guidebook is a tour guide in your pocket.

Excellent Kindle Version January 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love guide books but I have had mixed experiences with the Kindle versions. This book is excellent - an active table of contents which takes you to another layer of links, active links throughout the text, and really legible maps.

The contents are excellent as well and very thorough although, in typical Rick Steves fashion, fairly dogmatic about what is worth doing and how it should be done.

Overall, an excellent addition to my collection.

I've just returned from a two-week vacation in France. The book was spot on, about 99% accurate, and full of useful advice, down to where to stop for biscuites on the way to Mt St Michel and where to find clean public toilets. The other book we had was the eye-witness guide, but besides pretty pictures it was pretty useless. I like a book that tells me "you can skip this town" better than a book that describes 20 "charming fishing villages" and leaves me wondering where to go. Rick will point you in the right direction and will give you a sound advice, all with good humor and a relaxed attitude. Definitely a 5-star guide.

This guide is excellent as are all the Rick Steves books. He gives you all the details you need to make decisions about where you want to go and how to get the most out of your time there. His hotel and restaurant reviews are exactly as I found them when I went to there.
