Germany 2010,

What can I say, Rick Steve's does it again with his latest update on Germany! I usually buy his country guide along with the matching Michelin Green Guide for any European Country we plan on visiting. An excellent combination! Make sure you always check for the latest edition of any tour guide... things change rapidly in Europe!

Hamburg isn't mentioned,

I wish I'd reviewed the table of contents prior to purchasing this book. I assumed a travel book to Germany would cover the 2nd biggest German city, Hamburg, but I was mistaken. The city of Hamburg isn't mentioned at all, he gives various tourist recommendations for the south and east, but I really wanted a book that would cover the country in general including Hamburg. This may be a 5 star book for others, but for me this was a bad purchase.

Very detailed guide especially for Munich and Berlin. We were able to self guide much of the time. Many of the historical sights were hard to find and would have been impossible to see without the guide. Rick was very accurate and up to date with what was happening in that particular city. Best purchase we made! Would buy any of his guides in the future.

This book was very useful during out trip to Germany. We are very experienced travelers, but still found lots of pointers in this guide. Even the smallest details were very accurate. Highly recommend this book!

The book is great, but the Germany, Austria, Swiss combined book is more useful to me. The countries are so close and intertwined, I almost always spend me in all three on a trip.

I purchased Mr. Steves' book based on his television programs and reputation for no nonsense practical information. However, the book gives no information about two of the three places I will be visiting in Germany. There is absolutely no information on Hamburg, a major city, and a few brief words on Heidelberg, basically denigrating it and saying it isn't worth visiting (which is certainly not true.) So to call this a complete guide to Germany is misleading.

This book gives great detail about places in Southern Germany and Berlin. I wish it had a chapter on Hamburg as well. We checked out several books on Germany from our local library, and decided to purchase this one after reading them all. We are looking forward to our upcoming trip, and will have this book in our posession during our tour.

A big help on my trip to Germany,

Some friends invited us to Germany for their daughter's wedding. We'd been promising to visit them for 18 years and decided we should make the trip. We started trying to work with a travel agency but they wanted to push package trips. I had specific places I wanted to go that did not fit their canned trips. Two different agencies just left us hanging. So, I bought this book, read it, and then started sending emails to various places that Rick Steves had reviewed and recommended. Every place I contacted except one got back to me in less than 24 hours with the requested information. I made all of my reservations via email and our trip went just as planned. Note that Rick Steves is not a 5-star hotel kind of guy. He recommends small, relatively inexpensive places -- often Mom and Pop operations -- that really give the feel of being in Germany. They all came with breakfasts, some of which were so hardy that we skipped lunch. That's just what we wanted. However, these small places are generally not air conditiioned and usually do not have elevators. If you want fancy, skip this book. If you want to experience Europe, give it a try. If this is your first trip to Europe I would also strongly recommend Rick Steves book "Europe Through the Back Door."

This book was very helpful in providing "detailed" information for planning a trip. Many options and descriptions of accommodations were offered, for youth and older people--much appreciated. Even though it is last years book, it was the best I have found.
