Excellent resource!,

Excellent resource for anyone planning a first trip or their 10th trip to the UK. Price wise it's a steal for the wealth of information it contains. In addition to places to see, how to get there, where to stay, eating and entertainment, Rick also includes historical and cultural information to enrich your travel experience.

Not a bad book all round. Disappointed there is nothing much about Cornwall though. This is one of the areas we plan to focus on.

Rick Steves has good stuff with a personal touch. Other books tend to have a lot more information, requiring a couple of months to experience them. Rick concentrates on what is the best three or four weeks you can spend. Take Rick with you while walking or even on the bus or car, and if you want more reference material, get Frommer to keep in your luggage or hotel for comparison at the end of the day.

We ordered two books before our trip to London, this one and another that was much more expensive. We wound up relying on this one almost exclusively because of the insight Rick Steves offers in addition to the information about attractions. He also makes suggestions about some more off-the-beaten-track places that I'm glad we didn't miss! Plus, the dimensions of this book were far smaller than that of the other, making it easy to slip into a pocket or purse and making us look less like out of place tourists relying on our book.

I used this last year during a 6 week work assignment in Wales. I found time to tour Scotland and England also and found the book helpful. You cannot go wrong with Rick's travel guides. They are the best I have seen. I normally buy a couple of travel guides to take for each trip but 90% of the time I only use the Rick Steve's books. They are just more formatted for what interest me and are easy to use. I have used his Paris edition, Italy edition, and the Great Britain edition. What I like about it is once you use one, it is easy to find information you need in the others because the layout is the same. When traveling in foreign countries I rely on Rick's books while there just like I rely on my Garmin here in the states, its that useful. I have also found that the books have offered enough money saving tips that they have always paid for themselves once I get over there. You just can't go wrong.

Very useful tips for overseas travel. Rick's advice sometimes seemed geared more to the adult non/family traveller, but we still found plenty of helpful info.

The book came before the expected time and even before the minimum expected time. The book is like new, in excellent condition.

Rick Steves' Great Britain 2008 I never travel to the UK or Europe without one of Rick's guides. It's best (and very fun) to read it ahead of the trip--on day one you'll save the cost of the book by purchasing train/tube/metro tickets early. His sense of humor makes it fun, the highlights of individual museums, and suggested walks/routes indoors and outside, and the "maps" are invaluable. I nearly bought this on Barnes and Noble's web site ($29 with shipping), but checked Amazon at the insistence of my daughter--$11!

This guide seems to be very helpful. This will be my second trip to London but I found this to be of great assistance. I have, however, ordered the 2009 version to get updates on holidays and activities.

The tips alone will save you what you paid for this book. We have stayed at some of the B&B's and they were wonderful. Follow his tips on rail passes, etc.
