Could not have lived without it!,
This review is from: Rick Steves Silk Neck Wallet (Apparel)
We went to Prague and my mother bought two of these for us right before we left. I was concerned by the reviews so when they arrived I turned it inside out and went over the cord several times with a needle and thread. Because we were carrying our plane tickets, passports, cash, credit cards, ID, and basically anything of importance I bought two lenths of tan ribbon and made an additional "safety net" cord on each. The original cord is only held in place by one thread so that should definitely be improved upon.
We had no problems with the zippers, although the pulls are a little small, but noticed some minor fraying (nothing anyone would notice) as we were returning. We spent 7 full days in Prague and two days flying. These things made life so much easier. No purse, no wallet, no thefts. I wore it under my clothes once and then wore it slung over one shoulder diagonally across my front the rest. This way there was no play in the cord and wearing it backwards (zippers facing the body) make it practically impossible for someone to touch it without me knowing. There is an outside, open pocket on the back but it is really deep. Still I would only keep things of minor value in there like coins. The small pockets on front at the bottom were perfect for credit cards and business cards of people we met and wanted to reach. The large zip inside pocket has a plastic bag that comes with it. We don't know if it was supposed to stay in or not but we used it for tickets and passports in case we got caught in the rain or whatever to keep it dry. There are others out there but I can only say that this little slip of silk helped my time in the Czech Republic so much easier. If the little flaws were tweaked it would warrant a full 5 stars.

The string broke off before my plane landed. The zipper broke off. The adjustable string didn't stay the length I chose because the string was too slippery.

This item worked well on our trip. It has handy pockets for a passport, tickets, money, & credit cards. It has an adjustable neck strap. It is slim, lightweight & washable. It can be worn on the inside or outside of a shirt.

Item is made of durable material and the pockets are amply sized. Unfortunately, the zipper pull is very small and broke with the first travel use.

best of its type,
This review is from: Rick Steves Silk Neck Wallet (Apparel)
This is less noticeable under my shirt than most neck wallets, but still has enough pockets to keep credit card, ATM card, money, and passport separate and easily accessible. I've tried a variety of neck wallets, and like this the most. Like all the others, to avoid being obvious, it must be worn under a shirt and undershirt.

This is the best product of its type I have seen. The material is very comfortable against the body. The wallet's size is not gi-normous, which makes it less noticable and more comfortable.

Poor design - better ones out there,

I just got back from a 1 month trip to Europe with the Rick Steves neck wallet. I should have taken my old one - heavier, but much more functional. Here are the deficiencies I see in the Rick Steves product:
- The two front pockets are too small. Credit cards are a tight squeeze, making them hard to get in and out. Neither of the pockets are large enough for money unless you fold the bills in thirds. The pockets do not have separate zippers. -The main zippered compartment contains a clear plastic pouch designed to protect the contents from perspiration, since the silk sucks up moisture like a sponge. Unfortunately, this plastic pouch sticks to itself and gets bent and crumpled, making it hard to get things in and out. -The above main compartment is too narrow to hold a passport (at least a U.S. passport) sideways. You must put it in vertically, which precludes folding the wallet in half and using it as a much more convenient pocket wallet in places where it is safe to do so. -The strap does not detach, also preventing its use as a pocket wallet as above, or as an around-the-waist under the pants money belt. - The un-zippered back compartment is nearly useless. It is between you and the plastic pouch, and anything put in here will get soaked with perspiration. About its only plus is that it is light weight, but I'd gladly trade a few ounces for more functionality. Look for one that is moisture proof, has secure pockets that actually fit credit cards, a passport and the larger European bills, and can be used as a regular wallet.

Too many thieves know about this,
By A. F. "World Traveler" (Elk Grove, CA USA) - See all my reviews

I've used various neck wallets on my trips and they are useless. Every thief knows about these and the neck strap gives it away! I found out the hard way in my recent backpacking trip through Central America that everything gets wet from sweat and humidity with these. My passport got soaked and if it wasn't for an understanding customs agent, I would have been detained until I got a new one issued. The other thing is that you have to wear a dress shirt or it will show through your t-shirt. The strap is also dangerous because if someone comes up behind you and gets a hold of the strap, they then have a way to choke you. In my trip to Europe, it was hard to tell that I had one because it was cold/rainy and had to wear a jacket but in Central America where it was hot and had to wear a t-shirt people just commented, "He has something in his shirt!" I would not recommend this for a traveler but only if you need it to carry something on the outside of your shirt or when you can wear a jacket to hide the strap. I put mine aside and purchased one that straps under my pants and onto my leg. I generally wear loose fitting pants and it's hard to tell.

Not a traveler's friend,

This money bag was fragile, and therefore a traveler's nightmare! The weak strap on mine broke in Toledo, and because of its silky and light design, I didn't even feel it fall off. Thank god my friend saw it fall because it contained my passport, money, and other essentials. I would not recommend this to ANYONE who wants to keep their things safe and secure.

We needed this and used it, it is light and compact. Did not like the plastic liner that would fold up inside, it should be attached somehow so it doesn't crumple down. I like the idea of the plastic liner, if you get wet somehow or are sweating, it's a good idea. My husband wore this one and I wore a different brand, I liked mine better.
