I hope that nobody is discouraged from purchasing this book because of some of the reviews I read. This book is not tedious! You will get from this book what you set your mind to get from it. IF you want to learn how to dig into the Bible, IF you want to learn how to get the "meat" out of the Bible so that you can apply it to your life and IF you want your study time to be valuable and meaningful you SHOULD buy this book. It costs less than the price of a meal and you will be much more satisfied with this book! I have always wanted to know how I could learn more from the Bible and this book teaches you how. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT book! I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn and grow in the Lord.

I'm a Bible school student and had this text as one of two for a Bible Study Teaching Methods class. The book is an excellent resource for learning some basic methods of Bible study you can do on your own and then teach others to do as well.

The only complaint I have about this book is the binding (hence the 4 stars). It is so poor that the spine cracked and pages were falling out before I finished reading the 2nd chapter. I'm going to contact the publisher and see if they will send me another book. Until then, I'll have to use lots of tape to keep the pages in place!

Other than this, the book is excellent and would be a great addition to any Christian's library, but especially if you are a teacher of the Bible.

THis is the classic book on how to personally study the Bible that has been used in Bible colleges, universities, seminaries, churches, and small groups for over 20 years - and nothing yet has been printed that even comes close to being more helpful and understandable.

Zondervan has now released this larger workbook format that is so much easier to use. Even though I have Rick Warren's original first edition, I bought a copy of the beautiful new volume, and a dozen more just to give to friends I care about.

If you loved Purpose Driven Life, you know the importance of finding the truth for yourself, not just accepting it from someone else. This book will help you do it - step by step. Pretty soon YOU'LL be wriging the next Purpose Driven Life.

Rick Warren outlines many different methods to Bible Study - you can do it by book, character, topic, whatever.... and he gives examples on how to take the subject from initial review to final understanding.

The book, while published in the early 1980's is still very relevant to today.

Rick Warren does a great job of reviewing basic methods one will need to study the bible. In my humble opinion this is a great resource for the money. Here is how it's set up.

He previews how materials you will need, and how different study resources are used. He also tells you which ones are considered some of the strongest.

He gives you a preview of the 12 bible study methods and then goes into each more in depth. The 12 bible study methods are: The Devotional Method, Chapter Summary Method, Character Quality Method, The Thematic Method, The Biographical Method, The topical Method, the Word Study Method, Book Background Method, Book Survey Method, Chapter Analysis Method, Book Synthesis Method, and the Verse By Verse Analysis Method.

He also has 7 appendices in the back. These appendices are to aid you in what you just learned. He also has a list of other bible study books in the back for further learning.

In Conclusion, I feel this is a good book to learn various methods for personal bible study. The book is inexpensive (I got it for less than ten dollars), detailed, it teaches you what you will need and why, and gives you the keys to applying these various methods. I give it four stars because it is not as detailed as it could have been. However, if your looking to dig deeper he shows you which books to go to. This is a 4 and a half star purchase in my humble opinion.

Many Christians struggle with doing personal devotionals each day, spending time with God reading His Word and praying. This book is a great "how to" do daily bible study and devotion. The emphasis is on Bible study. It can take a new believer and over the years bring them to an expert on scripture, using highly sophisticated Bible study methods.

One of the best books for giving Christians meat to chew on, and grow out of their "milk" stage.

I purchased this book, as it was recommended by one of my pastors. It is fantastic! It has 12 different methods for studying the Bible. It begins with the easiest method and progressively gets more difficult and involved. You could easily just learn the first few ways of Bible study and get your money's worth out of this book. Each chapter not only details the how to's, it also gives a detailed example of a study using the method described. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to know a variety of ways to study the Bible.

I used this book as a textbook in Bible college. This was my first exposure to Rick Warren. This book is a great resource for the serious Bible Student. It will guide you to a deeper study of God's word.

This is the classic book on how to study the Bible for yourself. I first found it overseas. It has been translated into a bunch of languages in the past 20 years which shows how helpful it really is.

This is an incredible book that offers several different ways to really study the Bible. Studying the Bible enables one to draw closer to God and allows the Holy Spirit to speak personally to the learner. Personal Bible Study teaches the learner meaningful and specific ways of study. Anyone who wants to know and understand and discern the word of God should read this book! Rick Warren has an excellent presentation of study methods.
