5.0 out of 5 stars Fuuuuuny stuff!
So there I was in a bookstore, the day after Thanksgiving, flipping this book from letter to letter...laughing my you know what off in the store. If you know Rickles you can hear his voice loud and clear through these.

If there is any downside, this is a very short book and one can get throuhg the whole thing easily, but worth having for the continued...

3.0 out of 5 stars Rickles is awesome
I purchased this book and his other book for my mother. She and I LOVED the other book (Rickles'Book: A Memoir). This one is good if you are a Rickles fan, but not as good as the other one.

Purchased Don rickle's book for my husband for Valentine's day. Humor is true Rickles. It's a short book and I'm glad I didn't pay full price. We both enjoyed reading it, but I think I could have better spent our money elsewhere.

Rickles has put together a delightful book of 'suggestions' and observations in Letters. He uses his traditional humor and his innate ability to take advantage of stereotypes to make a laugh out loud book. It is a quick read, appropriate for all ages, and hilariously funny.

1.0 out of 5 stars A VERY SAD BOOK FROM AN EXCELLENT TALENT, June 3, 2009

I saw Don Rickles live several decades ago at the Westbury Music Fair. He cracked everyone up with his quick wit and talent. Ever since that time I've watched and enjoyed him often. He was even quite funny recently on one of Jay Leno's last Tonight shows (despite his obvious signs of aging and slowing down). I don't know what he and his co-author tried to accomplish with this book. It was not funny at all. I thought to myself, "does Rickles need the money that badly?" Even his "hockey puck" style insults fell flat. The letters are not real, and Rickles had to explain in the text of each letter who this person is (or was) by saying, for example, "you were great when you directed so-and-so". It doesn't take a student of comedy to observe that the crux of Rickle's humor is in his staccato of perfectly timed misanthropy. People find that his extemporaneous delivery is twice as funny because they're not the butt of his jokes (seasickness is a riot when someone else has it). When Rickles commits this shtick to paper it's a dud.
I've enjoyed several of Groucho Marx's and Steve Allen's books a hundred times more than I did this book (Marx and Allen were truly "men of letters"). 'Sorry, Don, your book is a waste of time and money. I should have bought one of your CD's.

It was a cute book; borrow it from a friend or check out from library; not worth purchasing; it takes about an hour to read. Just cute little letters that make you chuckle here and there.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic rickles, January 18, 2009
This review is from: Rickles' Letters (Hardcover)
If you're already a Rickles fan, this book is for you. If you're a new fan or are wondering what has brought this comic back to the forefront of comedy, then you've got to get this book. It epitomizes Mr. Rickles' unique humor like no other book I,ve read. And, believe me, I,ve read all of his books. He,s my favorite comic of all time. All of his books and dvds are hilarious, however this one takes humor to a new, higher level.

Ho hum. No belly laughs here. Maybe a smile or two. If this didn't have Don Rickles' name on it, and the celebrity connections, it would never have made it past a junior editor's slush pile.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's typical Rickles, but not that great, October 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rickles' Letters (Hardcover)
If you like Rickles' brand of humor, you're in good company with this book, but for me, I'd rather hear him being funny in person. This book is nothing more than a collection of funny anecdotal stories/jokes that are written in the style of letters postmarked to various celebrities. Originally, I thought these letters were actual real letters he wrote to his famous friends, which I think would have made for some good reading because even if they weren't funny, at least we'd get some more insight to this man.

However, the letters are not real letters and some of them are written to people that have been dead for hundreds of years and/or people Rickles' never met. Of course, he never claims anything other than that fact, so I couldn't be too hard on him.

Only three stars were given because while the book comes up short when compared to Rickles' Book: A Memoir, it's still a funny read for any Rickles fan. But in reality, you can safely put this item last on your list of Rickles material to check out.
