I became a Ricky Fan just before his famous Grammy's Performance of La Copa De Vida... Vuelve was a fantastic album. Since his spread into Mainstream American Music he's been met with mixed reviews. One thing no one can deny about Ricky is that the mf can sing, he can dance, and he looks good doing it.
MTV's Unplugged Series give artists the chance for a toned down intimate performance. Mariah, Alanis, Eric Clapton, Alicia Keys, and many others have all done Unplugged Specials. The idea is that the entire performance is non-electric. (i.e. Acoustic Guitars, Acoustic Bass.. no electronic sound assistance other than microphones and amplifiers). Ricky Martin really delivered on his performances in this one.
There were just two things I didn't like. The show was obviously edited between songs so I don't know if we didn't get ALL the songs he performed or not, I wish we had more of the between song banter that artists tend to do, but all that was obviously edited.
His setlist was somewhat dissapointing. Aside from some material that was completely new for this performance, most of the songs he performed were Pre-America explosion. I would have loved to hear something like Solo Quiero Amarte, or Juramento, or Tal Vez, or something like that which would easily lend itself to an acoustic rendition. Also, I have a personal believe that any live performance from any artist should include classics as well as recent hits.. you never know where your fan base is in the audience.
But it was nice to hear some of my favorites like Maria, Volveras, Lola Lola, and La Bomba.

Unlike Ricky's other concerts this one is on a small scale with not much spectacle, but that's the point. So, don't be confused if you get this and wonder why the venue looks so small. It is an intimate performance. Ricky does a great job with all of the songs we get here, and I'm actually on my way to the store to buy the accompanying CD. I wish I had just bought them both at the same time. Ricky Martin, aside from "One Night Only" has YET to release a decent Concert DVD. But This one will do until we get SOMETHING anything at all...

Here's Ricky at his best! Doing the songs that made him famous in Latin America before his explosion in the English market. For the type of songs that he signs, you REALLY have to know how to sing. And singing he does; belting the HELL out of Fuego de Noche y Nieve de Dia and Vuelve (reaching a pristine A in ..sin embargo aqui sigo insistiendote). As he reached that part of the song, I was wondering how he was going to make it. Would the chorus assist him? Would he down play it? But no, he did it by himself, loud and strong!!! You REALLY have to be good to sound the way he does with only 4 or 5 acoustic instruments.

But it is not all about the high notes. What about the low, deep notes in Perdido sin ti. Perfect!!! He is magical in the semi-autobiographical Asignatura Pendiente. He does equally great in his 3 new songs. One look at Pegate and you'll see that the "bon bon" is still alive and shaking, almost as if it had a mind of its own... Let me not stray away from the real subject at hand.

This is not, ladies and gentlemen, the watered-down version of Ricky Martin, with the catchy tunes, vida-loca, shake your bom-bom, she-bangs. This is the Ricky of Les Miserables, the one who could sing a whole song (A Medio Vivir) laying sideways on an easy chair while going back and forth from his natural voice to a falsetto like it was a walk in the park, the one with all kinds of colors and nuances in his voice. The one who relied on his interpretative talent and emotions to mesmerize audiences all over the world. A force to be reckoned with. I'm glad to see that that Ricky is still very much alive and arguably better than ever. Bravo Ricky!!!

This dvd is by far the best Ricky Martin performance Ive seen from him. Gotta admit I had doubts about getting this but it proved I was wrong. This is RM on his natural persona and does not dissapoints for a second. I like more this new RM, more relaxed, comedown, kind of more earth grounded. The dvd contains new versions of his old hits (thanks God we dont have his "vida loca" or shake your botty here) and 3 brand new songs. Tu recuerdo, Pegate and Con tu nombre are some of his finest work so far. Id definately recommend any fan of this guy to get this record asap.You wont regret it...and NO, you do NOT need to know Spanish to feel this album.Ricky Martin music is just getting better, something I never thought Id say someday, keep it up man. Highly recommended, one of the best mtv unpluggeds so far.

What a concert! The stage is full of not only energy and passion but also warmth and beauty. Ricky did a stunning job. I loved all the songs he performed. I was epecially haunted by the new three songs: Tu Recuerdo, Con tu Nombre, and Pegate. In the beautiful ballad "Tu Recuerdo", Ricky sings with a guest female singer, whose voice is very unique and supports Ricky's singing so well. It was just great to watch the 35 year old boy sing some ballads accompanied by the beautiful acoustic guitars. Of course, the classic up tempo numbers sounded awesome with some different arangement. The camera work was creative and excellent. I also loved the lighting and atmosphere. The problem of the show is... too short! The running time is only an hour. I want more... a lot more than just 12 songs. I would love to hear and watch the acoustic version of "Livin' La Vida Loca," for example. I also wanted English subtitles when Ricky talked in Spanish and even for the lyrics. I didn't notice editing problem (as previous reviewer mentioned) except the very last song, by the way. Anyway, I'm still totally satisfied by the fantastic performance of Ricky Martin.

The vision is crystal clear with enhanced widescreen and the sound is more than outstanding. Great music DVD not to miss!!!

This is a very good presentation for Ricky he is so connected to his fans, I really liked it. Maybe if you don't speak Spanish you would be a little lost because he sings Spanish hits (and 3 new amazing songs) but it's worth the money just to see his performance. This shows the real Ricky. Spectacular!

this intimate setting gives the viewer a chance to get to know Ricky without the distraction of a larger scale production. There is a nice balance of pace in the tracks selected and fresh arrangements of old favourites combined with exciting new material. If you enjoyed Ricky in the 90's you are sure to love this.

He gives you just enough of his famous moves to make you want for more, but it is his voice that will make you change your mind about Ricky Martin. It is strong and powerful. To heck if it is in Spanish! Good songs are good songs, and Ricky is at his best when singing Spanish songs. This is one of the best MTV Unplugged!

I can't stop watching this DVD !! Every time I watch it I feel like I am part of the crowd. I think it's the best ever DVD he has done. It's very well presented and the graphics are great too. Ricky's personality came out on stage in an intimate moment with the fans. Thanks Ricky...keep it up.

WHAT CAN SAY ABOUT A PERSON, AN ARTIST LIKE RICKY MARTIN?, JUST THAT HE IS AS PERFECT AS ALWAYS, OF COURSE HE HAS IMPROVED A LOT HIS VOICE HIS STYLE AND ALL THAT, I MEAN THE MAN IS THE WORLD TO ME , I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO HAVE HIM IN FRONT OF ME TO GIVE HIM A HUG AND TO SAY TO HIM HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM AND ADMIRE HIS MUSIC AND STYLE, THIS DVD WILL MAKE U FEEL AS IF U WERE SEATING THERE, WATCHIN' THE SHOW JUST GET IT, IT'S FANTASTIC!, JUST ONE LITTLE THING, THE FIRST SONG HE SANG HE SAID... "ESTA CANCION SE LA QUIERO DEDICAR A TODOS LOS NIÑOS QUE VIVEN EN CONFLICTO...ALREDEDOR DEL MUNDO!, NICE INTRO, BUT AS THE BIGGEST FAN OF RICKY, I WOULD HAVE SUGGESTED TO HAVE THAT SONG DEDICATED TO PEOPLE WHO ARE ABOUT TO DUE TO AIDS, COZ THAT SONG WAS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN IN PORTUGUESE BY RENATTO RUSSO, CALLED "A VIA LACTEA" MONTHS BEFORE HIS FORTHCOMIN' DEATH COZ HE KNEW HE WAS INFECTED WITH AIDS, IT'D HAVE BEEN SO COOL HAVE RICKY MARTIN SAID SOMETHING LIKE THAT, AS RICKY DID IN A CONCERT IN PUERTO RICO IN 1998 WHEN HE PRESENTED HIS NEW ALBUM "VUELVE", REMEMBER RICKY?, IT WAS JUST SOMETHING I REALLY WOULD HAVE LOVED U TO HEAR FROM THE PERSON I LOOK UP TO THE MOST!, I KNOW U ARE IN CHARGE OF AN ORGANIZATION CALLED "SAVE THE CHILDREN", BUT PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM AIDS OR ANY OTHER THING THAT PUTS THEM AT THE EDGE OF DEATH WOULD HAVE LOVED A MESSAGE, COZ THAT SONG, IS THE SONG SOMEBODY MUST LISTEN TO, WHEN U FEEL REALLY DOWN. He's back! This is a beautiful tribute to Ricky and his Latin roots, his beautiful ballads,and his voice which is rested and better sounding than ever. The new ballads Tu Recuerdo and Con Tu Nombre especially beautiful and La Mari of Chambao gives Tu Recuerdo a richness uncomparable with the blending of two excellent voices. Pegate, the Borica Plenan,is Ricky with his Puerto Rican soul at its best, and you will fall in love with the 'cuattro' guitar of Puerto Rico also. The DVD of course gives you that extra dimenstion. I can't wait for Ricky to come on tour again. HIghly recommend this DVD.
