Robot to the rescue!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot (Paperback)
Thank you, Dav, for providing us with a new series of books to look forward to. When my children were little, I made it a habit to read all books prior to giving them to my children to read, to make sure they were appropriate. I do the same for my grandchildren now. I fell in love with Captain Underpants and the Dumb Bunnies, and now I have Ricky Ricotta and his giant robot to look forward to. My 5-year old grandchild, who will start school this September, loves this new book. He was absolutely fascinated with the illustrations, and has spent many hours copying the pictures of Ricky and the robot. He says that when he starts school if someone starts to bully him, he will remember how Ricky handled it and not be afraid. Keep up the good work, Mr. Pilkey and Mr. Ontiveros. Kids today need these kinds of heroes.

It is very hard to find books for little boys (starting readers), that are page turners. We slogged through the "the - wheels - turn- around - and - around" books. You know the ones with a large picture and some repetitive sentence on each page. Never mind my son, I thought even I had ADD. But we read this book in one go. That had never happened before. He is now checking out each book store for the sequel. Dave Pilkey rules!!!!

Great for First Chapter Book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot (Paperback)
One again, thank you Dav! Ricky R is the "breakthrough" book for my reluctant reader 6 year old son. For the first time, he could not stop reading a book and was proud to have finished a chapter book. Attention all elementary school librarians who will not put "Captain Underpants" in libraries because of the toilet talk...give Ricky R a try and all the parents of little boys will be grateful! While this book does not have the same level of wit as Captain Underpants, it is really geared to a younger reader. My son thought it was a riot!

My 5 year old loves not only the Ricky Ricotta stories, but the drawing tutorial things in the back keep him occupied for hours! We have lots of homemade comics around the house now and sometimes he would rather draw than play on the computer -- that's something!

A great book for early male readers,

This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot (Paperback)
At age 7, my son had mastered the basics of reading and refused to touch those step into reading books anymore because he thought they were boring. This book is great for readers who are in the transition of stepping up to chapter books. It is an easy, and interesting enough a book that my son can, and wants to, read it by himself in bed. While he loved Captain Underpants, he found many of the words and concepts (like "reverse psychology") a little difficult to grasp alone so that book needed adult help. Ricky Ricotta gave him confidence because he could easily read it ,and yet it wasn't a "baby" book. I also find that most early chapter books are written with the female reader in mind. This one isn't.

Will never get to Captin Underpants level I say,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot (Paperback)
I wouldn't say the worst kids novel but this new Dav Pilkey novel series won't be like Captin Underpants. Why? The book(s) only have about 100 pages and the chapter's are like 3 to 5 pages. But since Captin Underpants has more pages, this is a good start for reader's about 6 or 7 year's old and are starting chapter books. So I don't think it will reach as many copies sold as Captin Underpants but it's just fine for young reader's starting chapter books

Ricky Ricotta is a nice little mouse-boy growing up in Squeakyville. He is lonely, and hopes one day to make a big friend. When an evil scientist, Dr. Stinky, creates a giant robot to destroy Squeakyville, it rebels. Ricky rescues the robot from Dr. Stinky, and together they must protect the world! This book is great! The drawings are black-and-white, but are quite funny, and go along great with the story, which is hilarious! My eight-year-old son picked out this book (he's into robots right now), and loved it. The book contains some "Flip-o-rama" pages, where you rapidly flip the pages back and forth and watch the somewhat-animated cartoon, which we both thought was pretty cool. The text is pretty short, and not challenging to him, but he nonetheless loved this book. We highly recommend this book.

My 4 year old's favorite book,
This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot (Paperback)
My husband came home from a business trip with this book for our son. Instantly, it became the most requested bedtime story of all time. My 4 yo laughs uproariously every time it is read. Now, in fact, there's no need to read it, b/c he has it memorized! ;-)

This book was truly outstanding. Well written, easy for the emergent reader to follow, with a storyline an adult can appreciate. The illustrations are magnificent. I strongly recommend it for child and adult readers alike.

This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (School & Library Binding)
My 6 year old son's reading level was in between. Not good enough for some books but others that he could read were too babyish. This series is a wonderful compromise. It has the look and feel of the Capt. Underpants which is still out of his reach but so very interesting to him. While driving from Florida to NY state, when given the choice between watching a video or reading he chose to read the Mighty Robot, he's never made that choice on his own before. On top of all this, it is a warm, funny story that appeals to the first grade male population, a great find.
