5.0 out of 5 stars Great starter for chapter books!
This is a great set of books for children who are past the "easy" reading books and need to move on, but not at chapter book level. My son loves this series. He couldn't put it down and laughed through them. I wish there were more Ricky Ricotta's books written. Highly recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars great story, Pages fall out!!!
This would be a great book if it wouldn't fall apart. After sitting with it just a little bit and trying to do the flip pages the page just fell out. The story is wonderful and very intertaining for a 4 to 7 year old learning to read, or needing to get interested in reading. I have never had a book that the pages just fall out from the glue.

HMMMM...

The books are great, my 4 and 7 year old boys both love them. However, the quality of the construction of the books is poor. When you do the flip-o-rama pages, the pages fall out. The pages are being held together with scotch tape.

4.0 out of 5 stars Son enjoyed it !, October 26, 2005

I am not really a fan of Ricky Ricotta but my son asked me to buy this set for him. He enjoys these kind of books. I read one and found out that they were quite simple to read and understand. Filled with action and adventure. Bottomline, if you have an 8 year old boy or girl that likes reading comic books and likes a lot of action in them, then I would recommend this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "Get Them Reading" Books!, November 14, 2004
This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot Collection (Books 1-4) (Paperback)
My daughter's first grade teacher read some of these books aloud to her class at the end of the school year. She talked about them all summer! This from a child who seems to hate reading. Her teacher wanted them reading 'chapter' books by the beginning of second grade and these are great books to start with. There are alot of funny illustrations to cue the child into figuring out words they may not know, but plenty of challenging age appropriate words to keep parents happy. You and your child will feel good about these books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot Series, September 16, 2004

This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot Collection (Books 1-4) (Paperback)
Dave Pilkey has made my son a reader.

Struggling with a learning disability, my seven year old boy felt pressured to be reading chapter books like his friends were. Pilkey and Oliveros saved the day.

The genre is one a boy can really get behind. The illustrations are wonderful, and narrative enough in nature to help a struggling reader.

Flip-o-rama (page to page animation)is just cheesey enough to make it cool.

The only other thing I would ask for is more books in the series. Get Super Diaper Baby while you're waiting, and Captain Underpants after that. They are the most read books in my child's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked on Pilkey!, October 23, 2005

Dav Pilkey has my son hooked! After thoroughly enjoying Pilkey's series of Dragon books, we went in search of more of his works. My son (6) loved the Dragon Tales so much I was concerned that nothing could beat it. I was wrong, Ricky Rocotta and his Mighty Robot make bedtime an adventure. We have finished the series, but I'm sure once my son becomes an independent reader he'll enjoy them all over again!

5.0 out of 5 stars More wholesome than Capt Underpants, September 2, 2008
This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot Collection (Books 1-4) (Paperback)
We love Dave Pilkey - and this is a kinder and gentler series of book compared to Capt. Underpants. If Capt Underpants was just a bit too "potty humor" for you, or the reading level was a tad above your child - then Ricky Ricotta is right up your alley. The stories are not so "potty" oriented, and thus a bit more wholesome. The word selection is a bit easier and the chapters a bit shorter than Capt Underpants, so it is a good choice for the early chapter book reader. The stories are not exactly fascinating to me, but they are funny enough, and with enough "action" to keep the interest of my 7 year old son. I think this is most appropriate for 1st-2nd grade. The next step up in difficulty would be Capt. Underpants.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mighty Robot Collection, July 21, 2008
This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot Collection (Books 1-4) (Paperback)
My 7yr old son borrowed the first book in this series from the school library and it was the first book he had borrowed that he read all of it and loved it. So I then wanted to hunt them down for him as he is not an avid reader and these books really grabbed his attention. I highly recommend them for any young reader who can just read chapter books as this will boost there reading and interest. Also Amazon came through again with being the only carrier of the whole set at such an amazing price. Thanks.Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot Adventures

5.0 out of 5 stars My son's first self-read chapter books!, December 20, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot Collection (Books 1-4) (Paperback)
My first glance at Ricky Ricotta led me to dismiss these as less-fun items in Dav Pilkey's enormous backlist (he's the author of the humungously fun and kid popular series Captain Underpants, as well as dozens of other titles like Dumb Bunny, Dogzilla, Dragon, etc...) That's not what my kids thought! I was shocked to see my son Ben (age 6) alone on his bed reading Ricky Ricotta all by himself - to himself! It was the first time he ever just sat and read a chapter book by himself. My son loves super heroes and watches shows like Ben10 (about a boy who can become a bunch of alien superheroes). It's that age old subconscious tension between feeling the powerlessness of being a small minor with wanting the world-shifting power they see in adults. Ricky Ricotta is about a little mouse boy who comes into possession (well - maybe it's control over - or maybe just close friendship with...) a super giant powerful robot. They have adventures that involve fighting evil enemies and saving the world. It's handled in a light funny way - like Captain Underpants' style - but without the major scatalogical focus. It's right on the money and little Ben quickly devoured these. Then he read them to his little 3 year old sister. She didn't sit still for all of it (what 3 year old ever sits still for anything?) but she clearly enjoyed them too. I can't recommend them highly enough for kids in the early-reader zone.

I would have given it one star, if it weren't for the fact the story and the cartoon illustration and the flip pages are all wonderful.
