I did a lot of research into this Sax Strap because I wanted to purchase this for my picky boyfriend who is a professional musician. He has used the same strap for 15 years and it finally just broke. Silly thing but he was paralyzed with anxiety over the issue. What if there isn't a strap at all like the one he used in the past - how would he do this?
I found that the hook, the fastener and the padding were well recommended so I purchased this one. He LOVES IT! He actually complained it was making him sad that he had to switch away from this strap when playing his Alto/Tenor Sax - so I bought one for the Alto/Tenor(s) as well! All three horns are delighted - as is the musician. No more complaining!

Straps come in all sorts of designs which I boil down to materials, ergonomics, and adjustments. The Rico uses a chamois/velvet-like material against the neck or shirt depending on one's dress. This material is both soft, to avoid chaffing, and slip resistant. The inner layer consists of about a one-half inch of foam padding which cushions and spreads the weight of the instrument over a large area, i.e., it does not dig into the neck. The outer layer is a vented nylon mesh that allows the neck strap to breath. From the neck strap extends a singular, small nylon cord on each side. I particularly like this design because often, instrument straps continue unchanged from the neck to the hook with the same thickness/width of material - which I find too bulky. Where the Rico especially shines is its length-adjusting system. Most straps (instrument, camera, backpack, binocular, etc.) adjust their length by threading the strap through a series of buckles/clasps; there simply is no quick adjusting. The Rico, however, employs a pulley-like system that shortens or lengthens the strap by sliding the adjusting disc (for lack of a better word) up or down; it's that simple. So, you want to fine tune the length, a slight pull up or down on the disc while you are "wearing" the instrument and you're set. I especially like this feature because, although there is a defined, set position of the MPc (mouthpiece) relative to the mouth, assuming a given posture, I sometimes have the need to slightly raise or lower the instrument, e.g., when I am sitting v. standing. All things considered: a terrific strap.

I bought this padded strap for a small framed preteen boy that plays alto sax. When I opened the package I thought " oh this is sooo big". When I gave it to the little man, he loved it, tried it and said it was sooo much more comfortable than the unpadded neck strap he has been using. He said with a big smile "now my neck won't hurt anymore! It's a lot nicer than anyone elses." This truly made a hit with a 72 pound 12 year old!

My son is an alto sax beginner complaining of discomfort from his soft, padded strap. At the advise of our local instrument repairman we purchased this Rico strap. This is the ONLY strap to have! Not only is it very comfortable, the S-hook makes instrument positioning and switching very easy. It holds the instrument securely in place and the sides will not stretch and sag like many other straps do.

Excellent strap and very comfortable. I wouldn't use anything else after buying this product. This strap stays in place and you don't have to keep adjusting it. It feels good around my neck and looks great too.

Ordered this neck strap for my son in marching band. He absolutely loves it! Product came fairly quickly and is very comfortable. Would order again. Will order another soon to switch out while cleaning first one.

I have 2 of these straps , the one I bought that I thought was faulty, and the second I hoped would be better. I am a professional musician with 25 years experience doing 150+ shows a year. The padded neck is very comfortable but the stings and adjusting mechanism get bound up and make the strap nearly impossible to adjust. You have to tug at the strings and pull and to adjust the strap for play it takes 2-3 minutes instead of just putting it on and pulling it up. Very inconvenient.
