4.0 out of 5 stars the third Silvestri Predator score
If you have and enjoy either of the two PREDATOR scores by Alan Silvestri, done in 1986 and 1992, then you would also enjoy this one from 1991. It's very similar and in fact sounds in places almost as if it might have been a part of PREDATOR. (Listen in particular to track 3, "Showdown".)

3.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to Alan Silvestri collectors
For anyone out there who is an Alan Silvestri fan, this score is for you! I remember years ago when I first watched the film and was completely taken in by Silvestri's score for just the opening credits. Since then I have searched high and low for the soundtrack unable to find it anywhere, until now. I will be brutally honest when I say that this is not the best...

RICOCHET has what must be the most aggressive hook (I could hardly call it a theme) I've ever heard. Pounding tympani mark the beat (1 2 3 4) - bang bang bang bang / bang bang bang bang - and brass interject a two note motive - daaaaaaaah dá daaaaaaaah dá. It's primitive, brutal and bludgeoning. It appears in track 4, "Gladiator Fight", and in track 12, "Blake Gets the Point". Tracks 5-9 are very different, being Silvestri's hushed, on edge, "what's happening" kind of writing. Fans of PREDATOR will know what I'm speaking of. Track 10 is a mock-German march called "Nazi Bookstore" and the final two tracks are a return to the pounding musical violence.

To really appreciate RICOCHET, one cannot simply pop in the CD and set the volume comfortably for the beginning of the disc. If you do that, the whole middle of the score will be inaudible. No, to get the point of this music, it's necessary to go to one of the tracks 5-9, adjust the volume to be comfortably low for that one first and only then go to the beginning. Be forewarned. It will be LOUD. This is music which is MEANT to be brutal and overwhelming. It is not music for your office cubicle. And again, it sounds a lot like PREDATOR.

For anyone out there who is an Alan Silvestri fan, this score is for you! I remember years ago when I first watched the film and was completely taken in by Silvestri's score for just the opening credits. Since then I have searched high and low for the soundtrack unable to find it anywhere, until now. I will be brutally honest when I say that this is not the best original score for a suspence thriller. So if you're looking for a really good suspence thriller soundtrack, you may want to look elsewhere. But for someone who enjoys the deep rythmic sounds of Alan Silvestri, this will make an excellent addition to your collection. (If you like this sountrack, definately check out Predator 2, The Quick and the Dead, and What Lies Beneath.)
