This review is from: Ricoh CA-1 2.5' Cable Switch for GR Series, GX Series, and CX Series Digital Cameras (Electronics)
I bought this switch to be used with a 3D rig composed of two Canon A720 cameras synchonized with Stereo Data Maker software. The switch works flawlessly even though this was not its original intended purpose.

I use the Ricoh switch to fire two digital cameras simultaneously for stereo (3-D) photography, using the Stereo Data Maker software available free online. The switch is solid and dependable, a fine piece of equipment.

I'm surprised that more cameras don't have a way to connect a remote shutter release or have the means to use a wireless remote. They really are a necessity in low-light situations and now that more cameras can shoot video, one of these is really required.
The button on this electronic "cable release" is set up just like the button on the camera - press it halfway down and the camera focuses, press it down the rest of the way and the shutter takes the photo. My only two minor complaints - 1) It runs on one AAA battery and there is no indication that it is on other than the position of the switch. I forget to turn it off quite often which runs the battery down to zero., 2) The cord is quite stiff and is only 20 inches long. You have to be careful that the cord doesn't doesn't jiggle the camera. Other than these minor nits, this is nice addition to your camera bag.
