4.0 out of 5 stars Poor shipment packaging
These are, in fact, RICOHJPN-R01-02 discs, which IMHO are some of the best and most reliable +R media made.

BUT whoever it is that specified the shipment packaging needs to be FIRED.
One cannot throw a cake-box of ever-so-fragile DVD write media in such a large box for over-the-road shipment without proper packing materials and not expect vibration...

2.0 out of 5 stars Flagging Quality
I've been buying RiData/Ritek media for several years now (many hundreds of discs) and, up until recently, have been quite happy and have had no problems with them. Now it seems that their product quality is slipping. The last two batches of these DVDs have had about 20-30% defective (visible spots on the disk). I'm moving on to a better brand.

This is great media with BAD shipping practices, so the only question is how many will be ruined en-route.
One would think that they would look at these reviews, as this has been going on for a long time, and get their heads out of their butts and fix the shipping problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ridata DVD+R 4X 100 Pack, September 7, 2004

These discs are simply superb! My DVD writer is an HP300n and it is pretty picky about certain discs I record on it. I had coasters with so many other name brand discs and losing so much money that I almost stop recording period; that is until I purchased a 25 pack of these Ritek "branded" discs (to be fair, I believe most of the problems were with the writer itself and not the discs). Well with this brand I have not had one coaster/flipper and they record and play "beautifully" in my Panasonic DVD player. This was approx 10 months and two spindles ago when the price was very high. I am now on my 2nd 100-count spindle, and I still haven't had one (1) coaster! The prices on these discs have dropped tremendously, and at $43.48 this is one of the best deals on the web. Thank you Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars These are RICOHJPNR01., September 29, 2004
This review is from: Ridata DVD+R 4x 100-pack Spindle (Electronics)
I have read reports of some batches of RiData DVD+R turning out to be Ritek G03's (meaning that they are limited to speeds of 2X). I got RICOHJPNR01, which are superb discs and as good as Ritek G04's (you can check your discs by using Nero's CD-DVD speed tool). If you are writing these discs at 2X speed, be sure that you check your dvd writer's manufacturer for the latest firmware because that is the #1 reason that people have problems with burning dvds.

The disc's themselves have a matte label coating so you can safely write on them (unlike shiny discs that don't have any sort of label coating) without worry.

I got this Ridata 4x DVD+R(RICOHJPNR01) from amazon that burn great with my sony dru-510A drive using nero v6.600. I done 10 without any problem, it takes about 15 minutes for each at 4x speed. Amazon should do a better job to package this item with more air bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Product - Works Perfectly, October 12, 2004
This review is from: Ridata DVD+R 4x 100-pack Spindle (Electronics)
These DVD+Rs have been working flawlessly on my system (Dell Dimension 8300 P4 3/512/80/XP) with factory installed 16x DVD burner. I use DVD Shrink 3.2 and Nero 6 and these DVD+Rs burn at 4x. Interestingly, I could only get the HP 8x DVD+Rs to burn at 2.4x! All I can guess is that you have to match the media with the software to get optimal performance. I have no desire to burn faster than 4x, and this product delivers, with outstanding video and audio quality. So far I've purchased two 100 pack spindles, and I'll probably end up buying a third. I'm very, very satisfied with this product.

as another person noted, this product is good, BUT the person in charge of packing the spindle should be fired. what idiot would ship a spindle of blank dvds in such a poor manner?!? not enough padding. no doubt the dvds were banged about and when i opened the box, the plastic case around it had broken off. i'll only know how many were damaged as i use them.

too bad. it's such a good product. come on amazon. be smarter than that.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quality media... I don't think so, February 12, 2005
By
This review is from: Ridata DVD+R 4x 100-pack Spindle (Electronics)
[...]Unfortunately, I am disappointed. The media is indeed ricohjpn01 which is a very good quality media. However, I am beginning to think these disks have not passed quality control and are being sold at a discount (that is despite the fact that the rebate deadline is 14 days from the date of purchase and it goes to TCA Niagara Falls, a place notorious for rejecting rebates). My spindle looks like it was thrown together - the disks do not align properly. A few disks had specs on the outer edges which decreased the burn quality significantly with my Benq1620, as check by the CD Speed tool in Nero. The rating dropped down to 85% after reading 96-97% throughout the disk. Most disks also develop shadows/dark patches, usually on the inner tracks, visible after burning the disks. The quality scans will show a bunch of spikes in those regions and the rating will drop down from 96% to 60-70%. All in all money not well spent - these are a lemon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Risky Ridata Purchase, February 9, 2005
This review is from: Ridata DVD+R 4x 100-pack Spindle (Electronics)
Beware that you're playing the odds by buying the Ridata cakebox from Amazon. My spindle came with some disks with physical defects which made the DVD's unreliable for storing information. My previous purchase of this product from Newegg was defect free. The data that I store on my disks is precious enough to me that I don't want to risk burning faulty copies. If I had to do it again, I'd spend a few more dollars and get defect-free DVD's from somewhere else. It's a crap shoot whether you're burning reliable DVD's with these media.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Media, November 26, 2004
By

This review is from: Ridata DVD+R 4x 100-pack Spindle (Electronics)
I have used Ritek's for a long time and have never had any burn issues unless it was an error made on my end. In the last 100 pack of these discs, I have had only 3 coasters and they were my fault. I will definitely be buying more of these discs. They are flawless and the price is definitely right. For those who swear that Memorex is the best, I hate to burst your bubble but Ritek media kicks it to the curb.

Have you ever used high quality and high priced Sony branded media before? Guess what? They are rebranded RICOH's at double the cost. A lot of top companies use rebranded Ritek media. The reason is that it doesn't get any better. I have bought cheap media before, and I have had nothing but problems. These Riteks deliver in a way that not many other brands of media can.
