GREAT discs but you may need a firmware update,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ridata DVD+R 8x 50-pack Spindle (Electronics)
These discs are great! At first, my NEC 2500a would only recognize these discs as 4X, but I upgraded my firmware to Herrie's v1.07 firmware and the discs burn fine at 8X now. SO before you bash on the media, check to see if you have the latest firmware and that your burner supports the full potential of these discs.

I have burned over 200 in the past 6 months and not one came out crappy, I burn at 8x on my HP a642n and it is NO problem. I have used other dvds and they were POOR quailty and no good so I am sticking with Ridata, they are the best!

great dvd+r,

I have backed up about 50 movies of my collection with ridata dvd+r 8x dvd's and have'nt experienced any problems. As for the write speed i have seen any difference between the ritek dvd+r and any other brand i have tried, the burn time difference comes into play when burning a movie that needs to be heavily compressed. You will not find a deal like this anywhere else (70cents per disk for a 50pack), (i searched high and low on all the major deal sites, check ebay if you don't believe it) so jump in you won't regret it!!!!

Not all 8x QUALITY writes,

I have the newest Plextor 716UF, hands down the highest quality burner available. (TLA0304) It's Media Quality Check can determine the write quality before burning to the media. Of the first 10 discs checked, 8 of these return with a "good" report at 8x. This is considerably better than 90% of the verbatim 8x writing at 2x reliably. Plextor ALWAYS makes reliable, high quality burns by adjusting the burn speed to the media.
UPC for spindle: 46122002016 EAN for spindle: 4719303660861 made in taiwan DVD Identifier reports these Ridata's "unique disc identifier" to be: [DVD+R:RITEK-R03-001]. Media codeblock snippet: RITEK R03 #T7. Full media code block: http://geocities.com/return050403/mcb_ridata.txt looking at the inner ring lot numbers one can see there are MULTIPLE lots on one spindle: http://geocities.com/return050403/lot_ridata.txt So quality will sadly vary from disc to disc. Disc 20, according to Media Quality Check "..would not be recoded properly at the specified speed" (8x), while disc 10 would be.

DON'T BUY ANY RITEK RIDATA 8x MEDIA!!!!!!
They become unplayable after a few months. Do a google search for Ritek 8x problems and you will get to the online forums where this problem has been discussed. I just threw away a hundred discs that I burned less than 8 months ago!!!

I first purchased these in the 25 pack spindle when I first used my generic brand DVD burner. After 25 successful burns I went cheap and tried the Velocity equivalent. Never again! 9 out of 10 burns were coasters. I bought the Ridata 50 pack and after another 20 or so discs - not one bad disc. Lesson learned.

I have backed up about five discs so far with these DVD+R's, while using a Sony DRU530A 8x burner. Worked perfectly fine for me, and for the price, I'm never going back to a "name-brand" again :)

Bought these DVDs expecting to see some coasters, based on their price. All DVDs in the box worked fine, no coasters at all. I use the Sony External 8x DVD Burner that has an USB interface. Highly recommended. The trick to burning DVDs is to not do anything else on the computer while the dvd burning is going on. I used to get quite a few coasters, when I used to multiplex on computer.

BEST DVD +R DISCS FOR THE PRICE,

This review is from: Ridata DVD+R 8x 50-pack Spindle (Electronics)
I was new at burning dvds on my home computer so for the longest time I thought it was the burner itself. However, my real problem was that I was buying the cheapie discs that were on sale at the department stores and they weren't being read by any of my dvd players. I upgraded to the expensive discs and they all worked fine except they put a dent in the wallet. These ridata discs turned out to be the happy medium for me, you can beat the quality (50 burned so far and not one went bad) or the price. 5 stars all the way.
