Riddle of the Tomb,

This is a traditional point-n-click adventure set in Egypt at the time of Cleopatra. The game comes on one DVD which has to remain in the drive during play.
You play in first person as Thomas, an apprentice astrologer. You find your girl, Iris, and her father, Akkad, have disappeared. The object of the game is to find out what happened and why and track them down. Control is mouse only. Graphics are good standard, with flowing water. The game is in 3D. Ambient sounds are well done. Voice acting merely so-so. Lines seemed rushed on several occasions. The story kept me interested even if the characters didn't. Puzzles are mainly inventory based though there are some logic puzzles. All are well integrated into the Egypt of the time. I managed to complete the game without resorting to a walkthrough, so they are on the easy side of difficult. Solving the puzzles gave a cut scene, nicely done. Game length was disappointing. There are three venues, Akkad's garden, Royal library and Alexandria lighthouse. There are a couple of brief visits to Cleopatra's palace, but no significant gaming action takes place there. There is a system of choosing astrological sign which tailors the puzzles as easier or harder. In practice there is not much difference. The puzzles remain almost the same as does the length of the game. I estimate roughly 18 hours game play if you are as slow on the uptake as I am. The game ran without problems on an older computer system. I liked what I saw, but wanted more for the price.

This is a game with a lot of tasks to solve. Some are easy and some are difficult. The game is lasting a longer than many others and that is good. The grafic is also very good and it is easy to manage around in the different locations. When it is over you which it would last a little longer.

I am not a strong gamer and this game was the perfect level for me. The puzzles were challenging but logical. I liked the relatively quiet action, calm and non-violent ambience. Graphics were simple and crisp and beautiful enough for me to enjoy just looking around. I started adventure games with Myst and I like similarly low-key point and click adventure games. This fit the bill perfectly.

Egypt Revisited,

I am a fan of ancient Egyption history. Most of my early PC games were "Egyption based". This is my first Egyption "puzzle" game. I find the settings & graphics to be okay. The objects to be found, however, have little to do with "ancient Egypt" ie gas can. Even though I have solved all the puzzles once I still go back for a redo.

The coding for this game was HORRIBLE!!! In all cases, none of the spelling for the puzzle answers matched the spelling given in the clues. Even worse, some of the puzzle answers either had additional letters or missing letters from the answer.
Furthermore, when combining objects in inventory, you're given the impression that the combinations will eventually make another inventory item once all the missing pieces are combined. Doesn't happen. You end up with a bunch of unsolvable combinations and a bunch of unused objects in inventory. The cut scene in the Library, once the tablets are found, was terribel. It left you with the impression that a good portion of that scene was left unwritten, again HORRIBLE coding. If you want a good point and click game stick with the Sierra products. Stay far away from anything produced by The Adventure Company, that is unless you have a very, very high tolerance for frustration.

I loaded this game 2x, and each time when you get to the part where you must place an arrow on Eros's bow, it won't let you. It keeps giving the message "No. The arrow won't hold if the string is not tight" and then you don't get an action icon to make the string go into Eros's other hand, which will make it tight enough. I checked on the net and found others had the same problem. I also went to the company's website and they don't even have the game listed. Plus the website is horrible and very small for a PC software company, looks like a 10 year old created it (no offense to 10 year old's) They probably could do a better job. Do NOT buy this game. If I get a fix for this I will come back and report it.

Couldn't get this game to load after I installed it. Not sure if it will run on my Windows 7 64 Bit system either as there is no indication on the specifications other than what other reviewers have said. Usually, I can find a work-around or use the system compatibility feature for Windows XP SP 1/2 or 98 for games that are designed to run on them but here I had no luck. Might have to find a "no dvd fix" of some kind to get it to just run period. If you have the above system or something similar, all I have to say is I warned you...

I downloaded this game also like I did with Nostradamus and it is just as jumpy and hesitant as Nostradamus. Not sure why. Had to delete both games out.

It started out boring and stayed that way. Puzzles included spelling names out with greek letters, and testing powders by trial and error to find out what they are. I never felt immersed in the game.
The voice acting was annoying. The game was kind of short (I was happy when it was over). It may be worth it since the price is quite low. |
