suspenseful!,
This review is from: Riddled to Death (The Hummingbird Falls Mystery Series) (Kindle Edition)
A delightfully suspenseful sequel to the first in the series Mysteries of Hummingbird Falls, when Ellie gets
herself into more serious trouble. Clarey's descriptions of characters, events, and places continue to be vivid, colorful, interesting, credible. If I had not read the first book, I would still enjoy this continued saga. Am looking forward to the next book.

Riddled to Death,
By Dixie Jakubsen (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Riddled to Death (The Hummingbird Falls Mystery Series) (Kindle Edition)
Joanne Clarey's smooth writing style and wonderful character development make Riddled to Death a great read! Ellie Hastings receives a series of threatening notes in the form of riddles. If she doesn't solve them something terrible may happen to her, but what? She can't figure it out, the threat is only implied. As she searches, an unidentified woman is murdered, a child goes missing, a strange family moves into the area and soon after gunshots threaten the residents of this small village. Ellie and her beloved mutt, Buddy, join Sheriff, Dave Shaffer to investigate these mysteries. As she follows the clues to solve the riddles, there's a vert unexpected surprise waiting for her!

This review is from: Riddled to Death (Paperback)
A family from New York in hiding from the mob moves up to the community and protagonist Ellie starts receiving a series of threatening riddles that she must solve. Interesting premises and a surprise ending. Just why are some of Ellie's friends avoiding her?
If you liked the setting and characters from the first novel, this is generally a fine followup. However, I do have one quibble--a character from the first book who seemed to me to be clearly in his 30s in that book now is a romantic interest for Ellie, who is nearing 60. Not that such things don't happen in real life, but it seems to me that this other character has suddenly been aged more than a decade--I find such inconsistencies jarring. |
